Took the seat out but cannot figure out why the seat won't lock into place. When the car is moving, the passenger seats slides forward and back
The adjusting lever for seat position is not locking into place. On the bottom of seat are runners on each side with holes in them that the adjusting lever tabs will lock in and hold seat in place. The seat slides on the runners if those tabs are raised. There is also a connecting wire or rod from the lever to the other side of seat so when lever is pulled up, tabs on both runners are raised for seat to slide. Something is keeping the tabs from locking into the holes on the runners in your car. Maybe the adjusting lever is broken somewhere, or the wire/rod came loose, or the lever is just dry and sticky and needs a shot of WD40 to loosen it up. If you can't see it and fix it with seat in place, then pull the seat back off for the repair. Good luck. Post back if my explanatiopn is not clear or you still need help.

There should be a release button at the base of one of the supports. Depress button while pushing down headrest at the same time

The manual lever to release the seat is supposed to have a spring on it to return the release lever to the lock position, if the lever does not spring back when you let go of the seat adjustment lever then you know there is a missing, dis-connected, or broken return spring.
If this is the case try putting the seat where you want it to be and make sure that the adjustment lever returns to the lock position, now check to see if the seat will lock in with the adjustment lever in the lock position.
If it does lock in repair or replace the return spring.
Make sure that the adjustment lever is attached to the locking linkage and it does move the locking mechanism.
If it still does not lock into place then there is something wrong with the seat locking mechanism, and some WD-40 sprayed onto the seat rails and track might release a stuck mechanism, and if everything seems to be working alright, and you can see that the locking mechanism in the seat rail is moving in and out of the lock position, then the locking tabs are most likely sheered off and you will need to replace the seat.
Also look under the drivers side seat and compare the lever position and the linkage connections with the passenger side seat, and make sure that it is all operating like the drivers side seat.

YOU HAVE A SWITCH OR A TILT ACTUATOR MOTOR PROBLEM. LINCOLNS HAVE 5 OR 6 ELECTRIC MOTORS MOUNTED ON THE UNDERSIDE OF EACH FRONT SEAT WHICH REQUIRES REMOVING THE SEAT TO INSPECT .THEIR ARE ALSO CABLES ATTATCHED TO THESE MOTORS SO LISTEN WHEN YOU HIT THE TILT SWITCH DO YOU HEAR A MOTOR NOISE? IF YOU DO THEN YOU MAY HAVE A BAD CABLE.

you will need to check to make sure no coins fell into the track and is jammed it if not you will need to replace the bottom frame of the seat possible with a junk yard one much cheaper than buying new and junkyard frames come complete.

Check the seats sliding unit it may be struck or something may be jammed the unit or the release unit may locked or jammed............

The seat position is an automatic not a gear shift.
The seat is electric
Do not know then, but it sounds like the seat may need to come off for repairs.
