The design of the heater core hoses on the V6 cause an air pocket to from in the supply hose. The hose enters the HVAC system next to the battery under the big plastic cover below the windshield. If you look close, the hose has a small hole in it in front of the clamp. Pull the clamp off and slip the hose back until the hole is exposed and have someone rev the car at 3000 rpm for about 3 minutes or until air stops bleeding out the hole and you only get coolant. Push the hose back on while the engine is still reved up and put the clamp back in place.
Replace the thermostat , sounds like its not closing or does not have one , and make sure that your coolant is at least 50/50 (50% water,50%antifreeze ) if you got more water that antifreeze your system will freeze up in freezing weather

On my 2002 Audi A4 V6 i have the same problem, heater does blow the air but it is not hot, however if i give the engline hi rpm (4k-5k) i can feel the hot air coming, but as soon as i go to to idle or low rpm heater gradually changes to cold air ( lukewarm air).
Air conditioner works just fine, climate control seems to respond to the temperature change.
Any idea ?
