2004 Envoy tach runs high

My tachometer stays in the black area above the highest mark. Most of the time it is pointing straight down and I hear a ticking noise as it tries to run higher than the needle will allow. Occassionally, it will go back to the the marked areas, although still high, and then will suddenly go straight down beyond the highest mark again. Other than this everything appears to be running smooth and quiet. Thanks for any advice.

the tachometer gets stuck at different positions of the tach then finally topped out and has been stuck ever since. I reset the Tach and the gauge still sticks

I looked down today and the needle was pointing straight down. It was acting like it was trying to move up then quit and hasnt moved since.

2004 Envoy tach is pointing toward the floor, every once in a while it hops up to 5000 or 6000 rpms. Everything seems to shift fine.

Common issue with the 03-06 Envoy instrument clusters, it's caused by failing stepper motors on the cluster's circuit board and it can be fixed. Check out this page for more on how to get it fixed - Envoy tachometer fix

Roaring in the front end of my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer 4x4

A jet engine type of noise from the engine area usually means the fan clutch is going bad. I don't think the tach is related to this, that could be the stepper motor for the tach going bad.

Oil gauge on 91 Dodge Dakota suddenly running very high but plenty of oil

have a mechanic test the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge
it is more than likely that the electric sender unit has failed and is sticking internally
the tic noise could be a relay working from an intermittent power supply or bad ground

Don/t know if my question went through or not. I have a 1988 Ford Ranger With a 2.9L FI engine. The tachometer does not work. Replaced the Instrument pannell cluster twice and it didn't help eather time....

have you double checked the wiring? Possible short in the harness? Try running wires from the tach straight to the dark green with yellow strip on the ingition coil and another to ground that should tell you if the tach is bad.

Defective tachometer and speedometer

Do the following:1)key in the ON position:remove the 7.5 gauge fuse.Tach needle should read "0:". 2)put it back,go on the engine and unplug the green plug on the igniter -the big one, with 5 or 6 wires on it.The needle on tach reading should be zero.If not you have a short circuit on the black wire between that plug and the plug on the conbination meter.3) If the reading is zero with the plug disconnected, the black wire for the tach is short-circuited inside the igniter. I have one available.email [email protected]

Tachometer is not working

please rate highly if this helps.

Check fuse #37, 10 amp yellow in fuse panel on dash.

The camshaft sensor in the distributor sends the tach signal to the instrument cluster. wire is BU = Blue?
