I will save you lots of time and money, the shop is B.S. ing you the noise you are hearing is not the altenator, although is conveniently in the right spot for a shop to lie to you. If you look at the altenator youll notice that another mechinism in there looks trifflingly close to identicle as the altenator but has hose leading to other areas. That little scandal of a part is known as an A\C motor. The reason its louder now is because the fresh altenator is winding the belt alot better than the older one you replaced. The a\c motor is not a required fix. You can simply cut the belt and do without air conditioning till yer ready to put a new one in. Any thing else mail me at demon _oblivion hotmail Jeff a.k.a. Obi.

Remove the drive belts, then spin each pulley by hand. You should find one that feels wobbly or rough. This is the component that is most likely causing your chirp. Usually it is either the water pump or an idler pulley. DO NOT run the engine with the belts removed- the engine will overheated and severely damaged!

Have the belt run checked for proper alignment as it runs across the pulleys, this problem is almost always caused by belt alignment problems,

The water pump can also make the chirping noise. You can place a very long screwdriver or metal rod against the pump & place your ear to the end of it to localize the sound. A stethoscope is very helpful, if possible.

It's like a rattling loud noise that comes out from the camshaft sprockets and timing belt on my 1998 dodge caravan 2.4 engine. it started while running on the road.

Could be the timing belt tensioner. They are known to make a rattling noise when worn and/or the belt has stretched....When is the last time you had the belt serviced? They should be replaced and pulleys inspected at 100,000 miles. Gates recommends 120,000 miles on their belts. Good luck, i hope this helps.

93 Diamante making clanking sounds under the hood. From fairly quiet to fairly loud. Sounds like it's coming from the belt area, a/c ciompressor area of the car.

This could be caused by different things. It sounds like it may be your timing belt though. If you remove your drive belts (alternator, power steering and air conditioner belts), and then restart the vehicle, if the noise stops, then spin the pulleys you just removed the belts from, to see which one is making the noise. If the noise does not stop, then it is most likely the timing belt tensioner making all that noise and you will need to have the timing belt and associated parts, idler pulley/s, tensioner, water pump and seals replaced. Hope this helps. Have a nice day :O)

It is the part under the alternator, right front corner.

Loud Sqeaul/screech from engine upon start up

could be your alternator. at start up. alternator usually has a big load because you just use your starter. it would recharge the battery and after a while the battery would be fully charge, the squealing noise will be gone.

check also all the belts if they are individual belts. use some belt dressings to eliminate the noise. sometimes the belt are just worn out and it would also make these noises.

tnx 4 using fixya,
