The van was overheating, reservoir & rad were full. I had it towed to a mechanic, he said although the rad & reservoir were full but the engine was almost empty, which suggested to him head gasket issues. So he drained coolant, refilled it added stop leak, then 3 weeks later turned on air conditioner and within 4 minutes overheated while idling, but went back to normal while driving. Took it back to mechanic and he said the rad was very low, but the reservoir was still full and said that I am on borrowed time, he filled it with water and we let it run for 10 minutes with no issues and suggested i replace the rad cap and give it a couple of days to see if it will draw in coolant from the reserve, it not then it's time to replace head gasket.
SOURCE: Engine overheated because of radiator
5 minutes is a long time to drive a car with no coolant. Does the engine run rough, or miss? Or is it just sluggish and low on power? If it got hot enough, there could be permanent damage to the engine. Overheating can cook the engine oil into a gummy sludge and loses it;s lubricating properties.Check for signs of coolant in the oil. That would indicate a head gasket failure or a cracked head.

So, the mechanic has done a pressure test on the cooling system?Have the mechanic to install a bottle of cooling system dye (tracer).Drive vehicle for a few days and then take it back..Good Luck!!!
SOURCE: 2007 Kia Spectra has coolant loss. Pressure test
in this case i would suspect the water pump,it would not really show up in a pressure test ,put a paper liner under the car at night and see if any water shows up on it in the morning,if it is ok, then the water could be lnternal ie the engine is taking the water, but 2007 engine should not have this problem unless it has a very high milage.one more [simple] answer is the coolant leaking from a simple loose conaction and drying up before you see it ,but water leaves a trace so have a good look about the engine for that water mark, please rate this answer.adrian,,,,,,,,,,,
