Hi folks, i recently purchased a mercury mountaineer 2006 full options, it is having power 3rd seats but last week, while pulling up the driver (left) side third row seat, it pulled up only an inch or so and then got stuck, there is a sound of motor but seat is not movin at all, and it is stuck in the folded position, i tried to apply some force while my wife pressed the switch but it didnt worked at all, seat didnt moved at all, the 2nd seat (right side one) is moving up/down perfactly... I have seen a lot of threads on internet suggesting to replace the assembly and also we cannot purchase the geaer or the problem part, we have to purchase the complete assembly with motor for both seats. I dont want to spend more money on it, is there a way to convert/make this seat manual... without power... if yes, how can i do it.... regards imran

THE MOST COMMON CAUSE OF THIS IS THE SEAT SWITCH (WIGGLE THE SWITCH WHILE YOU TRY TO MOVE THE EAT), IF THAT DOESN'T FIX IT U WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE POWER SEAT TRANSMISSION, A VERY EXPENSIVE PART, SO TRY THE SWITCH 1ST.

I have had this problem, and I am having it again. The problem is if a little trash gets under the bar in the floor, it will keep the mechanism from locking completely. I had tried everything. The only solution so far is the rock back and forth. Real pain. I am trying to find a secret release.

I solved the problem by spraying WD40 into the front side of the seat support that was sticking. This support has a rubber closure to protect the mechanics of the seat. After spraying a generous amount of WD40, I waited about 5 minutes and tried the lever to fold the seat. It worked and still does.
