Make sure you have your radio code if needed otherwise the radio won't work after this. Disconect battry, Unbolt main wire from starter, disconect switch wire from starter, unbolt starter, remove starter, fit new starter, connect switch wire, connect main wire to starter, connect battrey, start a couple of times to make sure all ok, input radio code.

You take out the battery, and the air-filter housing to give extra working space.
Then push in the starter motor to its place, and hand-tighten all its bolts.
Wrench tighten the starter bolts to the engine 38.ft-lb
Connect the solenoid wire, and tighten to 10.ft-lb
Connect the battery positive cable, and tighten to13.ft-lb.
Replace the air-filter housing.
Replace the battery, and terminals.
Crank-up the car.

SOURCE: 1999 Toyota Corolla interior door handle

There's two screws by the handle, pull those out and you'll see how it all connects on the inside. I was able to remove my broken one, and drill a hole into the plastic where it broke and reuse it - it's lasted over 4 years now.

My 1999 toyota corolla having 120K plus mileage is probably going to need a new starter soon. Does anybody know how to replace the starter? What tools do I need? Thanks.

Between the engine and transmission is the location of the starter, on the outside of them. Basic tools to remove the bolts holding it and the electrical connectors need to be disconnected. Purchase a repair manual for details as this is a decent job.

1992 toyota corolla starter replacement

If you like doing your own repairs, I'd like to recommend having a Haynes service manual on hand; it will give you all the info you need to do home-based repairs:

We have a manual for each of our vehicles and even when a job is destined for a workshop, you can get a rough idea of how much labor it entails and therefore how much it should cost.
