Parked truck for a few months. Battery died due to a bad rewiring by a dealership after an accident 1 year before. Noticed the gear shift light would stay on so something was always connected even after engine was turned off and would eventually drain battery (usually in about 6 weeks). Would normally connect to 2nd vehicle and start truck every few weeks. Anyway, 7 months into this (after 1 month unattended, not starting it) could not start truck... starter just clicks. What could go bad after battery is dead?
Your best bet is to replace battery with a new one. If a battery stays discharged for that long its probably got a dead cell. Removing any light bulbs that stay on will help some. A low or bad battery will damage the alternator (full fielding) as well as the starter (arcing at the brushes).
What Did The Wiring Go To?
It clicks repeatedly while holding the key in Start, or just clicks once?
Sounds like the solenoid for the starter is kicking in, hence the click noise, but the starter itself is either stuck or dead.

On my 2004 Aviator, the indicator was lit all the time, and it did kill the battery if I didn't drive it every day. The dealer stated it should only remain lit for 20 minutes, and replaced the shift assembly. Sounds like they shortened the illumination time to 10 minutes.
