We have loud ticking noise (possibly a lifter or two?) under the hood that starts after driving the truck from about 10-15 minutes. We have to pull the truck over and let it sit for a few minutes before starting it back up and then all sounds fine. We used to be able to let it warm up for about 30 minutes and it would be fine, but not any more. Doesn't seem to be any loss of oil, because the oil level /pressure always reads fine.
If noise is higher pitched and coming in on valve time...(2wice for every revolution of motor..ie: faster)...then upper end pressure is down due to sludge, wear , lifter failure, valvespring failure, rocker stud lifting out of cylinder head (kinda common) cam bearings failing (very rare)..oil pump bypass stuck open..and a few other possibilities... respond and we will go over lower end sound (deeper ,slower) and see what identifies your issues .... miles
yes.. a very likely suspect... remove oil pan/replace oil pump ...you should be sure first with an oil pressure test of lower oil port with a known good mechanical (borden tube ) gauge..good luck and let me/us know.....we have another suspect.. a clogged oil filter bypass located behind the oil filter boss..it could be failing or weak same as main oil pump bypass and alot easier to get to ....

It is a higher pitched sound with flucutation in oil pressure; meaning that the oil pressure level isn't always consistent even though the oil level is ... could this be the oil pump bypass?
