I have a 1998 mercury villager and the anti lock brake light came on when I purchased the car and they checked everything and said nothing was wrong with it, but the light will not go off, and I don't believe I will pass inspection is there any one that can tell me what to do? Thanx Robyn

Brake System, Anti-Lock
The anti-lock brake system (ABS) improves braking performance under all severe braking conditions, and in poor weather conditions. The ABS uses electronic and hydraulic components to prevent the four wheels (1007) from locking during brake application. The ABS ensures proper wheel tracking and steering performance even during extremely hard braking. The ABS does not function during normal braking applications.
Components of the ABS include:

The anti-lock brake control module has self-diagnostic capabilities and stores diagnostic trouble codes in its memory. If a trouble code is present in the anti-lock brake control module memory, the instrument cluster anti-lock brake warning indicator will illuminate when the engine (6007) is running. Refer to diagnosis and testing in this section for trouble code diagnostic procedures.

QT5 PERFORM ABS TROUBLE CODE RETRIEVAL
NOTE: The first code to flash will be the start code (12). Also, each code is repeated three times before proceeding to the next trouble code.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes, Erasing
After all codes have been retrieved, with the key still ON, disconnect the jumper connected between the data link connector (14489) and ground. Ground Pin 4 of the data link connector three times within 10 seconds, leaving it grounded for more than one second each time.
After the codes have been erased, perform the Quick Test again to verify that all codes have been erased.
ABS Trouble Code Identification Chart
The anti-lock brake warning indicator will come on to warn the driver of an anti-lock brake system (ABS) failure. This is an amber warning lamp located on the instrument cluster. When the ignition switch (11572) is in the ON position, the anti-lock brake control module (2B373) will perform a preliminary self-check on the anti-lock electrical system indicated by a three to five second illumination of the amber anti-lock brake warning indicator. Even if the anti-lock brake warning indicator illuminates continuously, normal brake system operation will still be available. However, the wheels (1007) may lock up under a hard stop.
On-Board Diagnostics
When the anti-lock brake system (ABS) is operating normally, the anti-lock brake warning indicator will illuminate for approximately three seconds when the key is turned ON or when the engine (6007) starts. If the anti-lock brake warning indicator stays on for more than three seconds after the engine starts or illuminates while driving, a malfunction has occurred in the ABS. The ABS trouble codes are stored in the anti-lock brake control module . Up to three codes can be stored in the anti-lock brake control module and they are kept in memory until they are erased. The ABS trouble codes are retrieved through the anti-lock brake warning indicator. This is an amber warning light located on the instrument cluster. The ABS trouble codes may indicate different failures.

I have similar problem with 2002 buick century. Antilock light comes on sometimes while driving sometimes not. It stays on for various periods of time, sometimes doesn't come on for days. Since it doesn't stay on, is this an indication there is a computer problem or could it really be the brake system?
I have a 1995 Geo Prizm, 201k miles. Runs great, but my ABS light has been on for about a week. Mechanic says ABS clip needs to be replaced. $325. Is that right? I'm not mechanically inclined (would probably hurt myself if I tried) so I'll take it in but don't want to get soaked with the repair bill. Oh, and I'm keeping the car for my son to drive, so I want it done right and well.
I have a 1995 Toyota 4 runner. I replaced all the brakes which work fine but the abs indicator light will not go off. It stays on all the time.
