A/C will only blow through defrost vents

The A/C and heater will only blow through the defrost vents. The tempeture works just fine, blows cold air when at 60 degrees and blows hot when set to 90 degrees. I can not change the air or heater to blow through any other vents even if I switch it to another vent, will only blow through defrost.

Common question on this site. On late model cars, the vents are controlled by blend door motors. Small electric motors open and close doors to direct air flow.
Chances are you have a blend door that is stuck or a failed motor.
The default position is the defrost to make sure the windshield is always clear.
Someone will need to look behind the dash to see if all of the doors will move on demand.

SOURCE: heater fan only blows on dash vents and not on

the simplist answer is the cable is disconnected from the diverter valve if it;s a manual lever or the vacuum damper is bad that operates the diverter. Lok under the dash board to find.

On my sons 2000 chevy silverado 4.8 liter....the heater works fine....but when i switch control to defrost....only cold air blows out defrost vents....any help would be appreciated.

the heater & defroster baffles are controlled by electic motors that open and close the baffle (doors) to let the air to the heater and defroster vents. the motor must be bad

Defrost not working well, amount of air blowing is low. Acts like a blockage problem, all other parts of the heater system works fine.

While in defrost mode press and engage a/c button on dash(leave in hot air position) and see if that helps with defrost issue. What this does is with a/c operating it removes moisture from the air in car which is all fogged windows are is humidity build up.Dont worry cold air wont blow through vents even though a/c on due to position of hot/cold adjuster.

A/C Heater problems

the main issue with this is either the thermostat or the climate control switch I do not know if your climate control switch is electronic or manual either way I would start out with the cheapest and go with the thermostat first good luck!
