P0420 means that the catalytic converter is operating below efficiency threshold. Normally, you only get this code if both O2 sensors ARE OPERATING PROPERLY. If you change the O2 sensors and still get the same code, it's an indication your catalytic converter needs to be replaced. But before you replace it, ensure that everything else in the engine is operating properly, so that whatever may have damaged your current catalytic converter doesn't damage a new one.

Check the sensor which controls the cooling fans that cools the radiator it prevents the engine from over heating and allows the temp gauge to stay at normal range.recently had problems with my 2003 impala overheating it was the sensor had the thermostat replace as well.
if your talking about the over head temp reading that is an entirely different system.the temps you show at 178,169,173 are all below what they should be,it should have a 195 degree thermostat in that engine, where did you get those temps,if you got them from the dash you should change the temperature sending unit. re-flashing a computer is done if Chrysler found problems in vehicles and would download the new info to the computer to correct them,
Its is mounted horizontally on the lower left side (driver tire side) of the engine about 6-8 inches underneath the ignition coil (the thing with all four spark plug wires coming out). The sensor is very small and almost looks like just a wiring connector. But it is really a connector and sensor. It will have two wires (white and brown) coming out of it. Remember coolant will come out when you are replacing the sensor so be prepared and quickly thread in the new sensor. Otherwise it is one of the easier fixes to do on a Rav4.
