1998 gmc sierra blower motor runs Intermittently

I beleive the resistor is failing and need to know how to replace it. I see the wire harness entering the firewall but when looking from the engine compartment I cannot see how to remove.

Does anyone know what the problem is???? 1998 GMC Sierra blower motor problem.... when fan is turned on it works fine then all of a sudden it makes a loud screeching noise and sounds like its gonna blow up, does it on all speeds. please help

Just fixed mine- removed glove compartment lid, remove purple and black wires. lift tab on top of cover and pull cover down and out (very difficult) put a drop of oil on end of shaft.

I SHOULD HAVE- drilled a small hole through cover at center of motor hub and oiled the shaft through the hole

The resistor is mounted in the blower housing. Unplug the wire harness and remove the 2 mounting screws, out she comes! Frankster016

JUst reread the question. The word 'intermittently' tells me the resistor is not the prob!! Big Poppa has is on the right track! Take it to a shop and run a scan to pin-point the prob. Frankster016

If you turn your ac on max, the radiator fan should run, if you turn it off, it should turn off. If it does not, than its more than a resistor, its your sensor that tells the fan to run or not. Your ecm, pcm may have gone bad

Blower motor not working 2005 GMC sierra resister ground pin burnt

small_car4.png Wiring problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 6 Failure Date: 07/18/2009

The connector that plugs into the blower motor under the glove box became too hot and melted the plastic resulting in the a/c and heat not to work (this includes the windshield defroster). I've been looking up problems and solutions and found that this is a recurring problem with GMC and chevy trucks yet there has not been any recall, in fact the dealerships have an extremely overpriced kit to fix their faulty wiring. About 66,000 mi.

Blower fan only runs in positions 1-3, not on 4; relay or resistor?

Remove blower motor resistor and check to see if it discolored or melted. if so then replace blower motor resistor, also blower motor speeds 1-4 go through resistor, 5 goes direct from switch to blower motor. check wire harness connector at resistor, it should have six wires five power wires that corralate with the five settings on switch, so in each switch setting one wire should have power. the sixth wire is the ground. also harness connector to resistor it may be melted, if so go to dealer with vin number and get new harness connector with resistor.
I hope this helped.

1996 GMC Sierra Heater blower motor only works on high speed. How do you change resistor?

The blower motor resistor is located within a foot of the blower motor in the duct that the blower motor blows into. The resistor is actually cooled off by the blower motor blowing across it. It has a wire harness that connects it to motor & fan switch. It is held in place by 2-4 retaining screws. Disconnect wire harness, unscrew retaining screws then lift out. Reverse order to install.

How doi locate the resistor for a blower motor on a 1997 gmc sierra 1500

Hi!!
Check under dash, passenger side, if necessary, remove cover to access Blower Housing Assy., the harness has two terminals, one for the Blower Motor and one for the Blower Motor RESISTOR which is fastened by two 7 or 8 mm. screws to the Housing.
Here is a picture of the Blower Housing Assy. showing the Resistor.

2004 GMC Sierra 4dr truck. the fan does not work

The switch or the wire harness at the blower motor has gone bad. The highest setting 5 has no resistor, so the blower runs on high but the high current flow ends up burning up the switch's contact on that setting or the resistor wire harness at the blower motor has gone bad. Common would be the switch it self, if the switch is good. Then it's going to be the wire leads at the speed resistor by the blower motor under the glove box by the passenger leg compartment. Keep me posted, be glad to help you get your Sierra running 100% again soon.

1998 z71 4x4 truck k1500 v8 the airconditioner/ heater fan only runs on high will not run on low or medium

You need to replace the blower resistor assy. it is located down by the blower motor on the passenger side near the passengers feet. it will be held in by 3 screws. you should also check the connector for the wiring that goes to it as they have a tendency of melting. The wiring harness is available at the dealer. Purchase the resistor at the dealer and they can print off a picture of its location and or verbaly explain where it is. good luck

1998 GMC Sierra pickup truck cabin fan problem

Your blower moter is under your glovebox and very easy to replace.I dont think thats your ploblem.I would pull off the dash.It will snap right off without breaking anything. Then pull out the part that holds the selector switch for the fan speed. Then you unplug that switch.Clean the copper contacts.Plug it back in.If everything works again like it should and did in my truck then it is either that switch that is bad or the wiring harness.I would replace that switch.
