I drove into a ditch and broke my car. It's front wheel drive, but the front wheels won't move under their own power. She still shifts well, maybe a little looser than before, and the engine still runs. But why won't the wheels turn?
So the toyota starts, u can shift thru the gears, but the car doesn't move? If that's the case, you probably broke a cv joint/axle when u went into the ditch. If the cv joint or axle breaks, the engine and drive train can't spin the front wheels.
Hi selahsuzeral, I am wondering why u rated my solution 'inappropriate'? skip8303 also thinks it's the cv joint or axle, I'm willing to help further, can u give me more info, and also explain the rating u gave?
Hey suz, If the axle breaks, you can still steer the car, the wheels will roll, the cv joint I would think would probably make some noise if u try to drive it, but if it's a real bad separation, it might not, so whichever it is good luck! Thanks for the rating, that's the 3rd time someone other than the original question poster gave a bad rating-appreciate your taking the time to correct it!!!! Curt

Sounds like you might have a broke axel or cv joint

Yup, she starts and the engine runs as well as it ever has, and she shifts well, no catching or anything and I have full range of side to side movement in the wheels, but the front axel won't engage. I had her hooked up to a tow-line to bring her home, and she rolls well. I didn't hear anything break when I was in the ditch, but I did see a little bit of white smoke coming from under my hood.
As far as the rating, I wasn't the one that originally rated your comment. I am very thankful that you and skip8303 were able to give me a little input on what might be wrong.
Thankyou
