Doesn't sound too good. Take the car to a transmission shop and have them scan it and give you an estimate. Then, have the same thing done at two more shops. See if they all come up with the same ideas. www.AAMCO.com is your best bet. Very honest and hard working people. Car Care Service locations Center Locator AAMCO

Sounds like an internal trans problem, but first, all of the external diagnostic checks need to be performed.Check fluid level, scan for diagnostic trouble codes, look at clutch volume indexes in the data stream, and also look at the input and output speed sensors to make sure they are functioning,as well as the command gear from the computer, and the PRNDL switch. The big tip thats an internal problem is the Reverse problem.Reverse is purely mechanical and hydraulic controls.Electronic malfunctions usually don't affect Reverse gear.

I had the same problem. The interlock was not the problem. I had the shifter replaced (at my own expense because drive train warranty would not cover). After examining the old shifter discovered source of problem is a plastic cam on the front of ths shifter. A tiny PLASTIC ear which connects to a small spring had broken off. I repaired this by putting in a small screw where the ear had been. Incidentally, my tow truck driver had also seen the same problem on several Chrysler 300s. In my estimation this is a poor design on Chrysler's part.

check for a faulty valve body. there is a tech service bulletin for your problem. obtain a chilton's, or haynes repair manual specific to your truck, in the general maint. section you will find how to perform this operation. it is fairly simple. (if i can do it) adjust both bands then start/engage the reverse to see if this solves the problem. the TSB can be found on any internet site that features them. ex. type dodge ram tsb's and you will be on the right track. if this does not solve your problem, you could have a partially clogged trans coolant line as there is a check valve located within the return line that if it becomes clogged, will not allow fluid to enter the converter.
