Thinking I may have to make that dreaded dealer visit to re-set the codes!

Might save you a whole lot of time if you stop by autozone, or Pep Boys, and get the free scan & see which sensor may be faulty, or sending code. I've had mine trip from driving in nasty weather for a while before, and a trip to the carwash, and concentrating the sensor areas with spray, (back of wheels area) put light back out, next start.

u will need to check the wheel speed sensors behind the brake rotors to see if they got damaged or disconnected during the brake job, as long as the ABS light is on the Anti-lock brake system is disabled, regular braking without the need of ABS will feel fine.

I hate to say it, but the abs control module might have died on you. Thats the boxy looking thing under the hood that has a lot of brake lines and wire connectors going into it. I have seen this happen before and it ended up being one of the speed sensors on the wheels but usually its the module. Take the truck somewhere to get the light scanned, and that will give you a better idea of what it is.

I would recommend checking for diagnostic trouble codes in the ABS system. If there is a diagnostic code C0265 set, then you're most likely looking at an ABS computer replacement. This is a common failure on these trucks. GM calls this computer an EBCM, or Electronic Brake Control Module. This is the controller for antilock brakes and is mounted directly to the ABS pump motor assembly. Last time i checked, these things were going for about $900 at the dealer.
