2000 GMC K3500 Sierra 6.5 turbo diesel
It will shut off while driving and sometimes will start right back up other times will start who knows when. I have replaced the booster pump. fuel filter, fuel relay sensor, and just had the main brain rebuilt. Still cuts off.
I own the same 3500 GMC 6.5 diesel truck with the same problem. We replaced the brain under the upper turbo hood and it fixed it pronto. No more shutoffs
I have a 2000 3500 hd with a 6.5 and have had the same problem. Mine had a code 0251- injection pump A/ camshaft position sensor malfunction. They are known to have a problem with the driver module that is mounted on the side of the injection pump. Very bad location- high heat causing the electronics to fail. My problem was the same- cuts off at different times, may start right back up or crank again and again without starting. On this year model the camshaft position sensor is integral to the injection pump. When it fails it usually does so slowly causing the symptoms you have. Also the fuel cutoff solenoid in the injection pump are known to **** out too. Bottom line I just had my truck repaired- replaced the injector pump and good to go. AS of today 3/30/11 you have two months to get it to a GM dealership. They will run tests and if it is the cam position sensor going bad in the pump they will replace the pump free of charge with a new driver module! If the fuel cutoff solenoid is bad they will replace the solenoid but not replace the pump. This is not a recall but a policy they have. I was told if your truck has less than 110,000 miles on it or by the drop dead date two months from now. My truck only had 74,000 on it when the problem first started. Dont replace a bunch of parts guessing, they can check it very quickly and determine the problem. I was shocked the GM dealership said they would fix it free of charge. P.S. Aftermarket kits are out there to mount the driver module away from the engine which greatly increases the life of the electronics.
Hope this will help fix you truck! Have a good one - 2BROKE2PAY
