Mercedes sl500 check engine light with a P0455 code

Has a sound coming from near driver's headlight area. Checked and tightened gas cap, but sound still come back. Seems to be related to a large leak in the EVAC Emission Control System. How severe is this? What is estimated cost to fix.

SOURCE: can't get gas cap back on 1999 e320

Check the metal tabs on the gas cap they should be aligned with the little groves if there not the cap won't go on correctly or close all the way and you will get the engine light coming on. Happen to me and I used a pair of needle nose pliers to move the tabs back into place (wasnt easy) and then it worked fine...Hope this helps you.

P.S my cap got like that after I fueled the car and was in a hurry now I make sure everything lines up before I tighten it.

SOURCE: My 1994 Mercedes Benz SL500 radio display turns on, but no sound?

I had same problem with my 1994 SL600. Also when this happens you will lose your interior door lights when you open the doors. My problem was solved by taking out the, A-white 40 amp 12V Relay and cleaning off the 6-prongs and reinstalling. It is located in the box underhood ahead of the main fuse box. Just need a phillips screwdriver. It is the fartherest relay in back left. I had to pull the one out in front of it to be able to remove the white one. You can hear it click when you push in dooropen switch. When working right you do not hear it. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 2003 c240 check engine light is on,car runs

HAVE CAR HOOK UP TO A DIAGNOSTIC SCANNER TO SEE WHAT CODE IS.MOST OF THE TIME IF CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND CAR STILL RUN FINE.YOU COULD HAVE EMISSION EVAPORATIVE LEAK.YOU COULD HAVE A SMALL MISFIRE.OR YOUR ALTERNATOR COULD BE OVERCHARGING OR UNDERCHARGING BATTERY.MANY THINGS WILL CAUSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON.HAVE IT SCANNED.IT WILL SPOT THE PROBLEM FASTER.

Check engine light comes on

yes. the rubber gaskets do wear out. on most vehicles the gas cap
should be tightened 'til it"clicks". you probably can't tell from the
"appearance" but if you tighten 'til it clicks then drive for awshile and still
get the same code, the next step is a NEW gas cap/

Check engine with error codes P1111 and P0455

The Code 455 is showing the large leak in the Evaporative system (gascap) and the Code 1111 shows there are no defects.

You can get these codes wiped off with a scanner free at Autozone, Oreilys, or Advance. They may clear by themselves after 35 startups.

It would just appear to be a latent record of the old condition before and after you tightened the gascap.

Now car won't start, checked fuses all ok

P0455 will not cause a no start. P0455 is leak in the fuel vapor recovery system, it will never cause any type of drive related issue. Have the fuel pressure checked and see that you have spark, my bet is the fuel pump has gone out. A defective electric fuel pump will not set any code.

I have a 2006 Saturn Relay with just over 70k miles. The "check gas cap" came up on screen after a few days the check engine light came on. was at a friend's who has a code reader and he...

The P0455 code indicates a leak in the evaporative gas system.

A loose, improprely seated, or defective gas cap will set the code in the computer.

Insure the gas cap is on and working as it should most caps gives a ratcheting clicking sound when seated. Inspect the cap for any damage and if found replace it.

If in doubt replace the gas cap.

Engine code po455

Check this info about P0455 - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (no purge flow or large leak)

This indicates a fuel vapor leak or lack of purge flow in the EVAP control system. It means a large leak has been detected. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

Symptoms: You likely won't notice any drivability problems.

Causes: A code p0455 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
Other leak or damaged piece in EVAP system

Possible Solutions: With a p0455, the most common repair is to:
Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
Otherwise, replace the gas cap, and/or
Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses (you may hear a vacuum noise or smell fuel), repair if necessary

Check it and keep us updated.
