I lost the only key I had for my 2004 chevy malibu. The lock smith came and made a dub for the car. However, the care will not crank at all. What can I do?
There are 2 type of GM keys one with a a black chip on the key itself and the other with a security chip in the ignition. the key u have must have the chip in the key and would requir you getting a key made directly by the dealer
They key has a compter chip that inplanted in the key. A dub key wouldn't work. Take your title or registration with some form of picture id to any GM dealer and the would be able to make you a key. It will cost a few bucks, prices vary.

Hello. The electronic opener needs new battery. Change it and it will open. The dealer can get you a new key. Get the Vehicle Identification Number & Bill of sale or good proof it is your car and they will help you get a key.
I would start by checking all the fuses. Check your wires to your battery. If your turning the key and hearing nothing, probably a starter or battery. If it cranks, could be the ignition system.
if it does not tell you in your owner manual you have to take it by a GM- dealership and they have to reprogram it to the car wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.
take a copy of your title to a chevy dealer they can use the vin to make you a new key and require the title as proof of legal ownership. this can be kind of pricey. also if the tumbler has a number on it usually 3 digits but can be 4, most lock smiths can use that number and your cars model and year to make a new key. if it has a rf chip in it, or you want your power locks button back the dealer is the only real option. places like best buy who install power locks may be able to code a new remote but it probably wont be much cheaper than the dealer.
2004 chevy malibu crank no start/ scan computer found code b2930, basicly computor forgot the chip inbedded in key, turned on ign for ten minutes cycled key and car started has been fine for two(2) days
Remote control door lock reciver an the BCM - body control module control the locks . The key switch is a electrical input to the BCM , the BCM controls the door lock actuators . Your best bet ,have it towed to the dealer .
