The themostat is located under the timming belt cover behind the timing belt. This is not a job for the normal backyard mechanic.
http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng.html This is a link on how to replace your timing belt, which you may as well do while you are in there to get at the t-stat

Toyota Camry v6 1998 overheated now have a clattering noise in top end at 2000 rpm

Get a compression test done to eliminate a warped head or cracked head . Hopefully you have not cracked the block as this costs 6000 dollars AUD to fix or $3500 AUD for a Reco Engine.
If it is an alloy head the two metals cool at different rates and warping or cracking can occur. $$$$$$$ costly $$$$$$ to fix

Where is thermostate on 1998 chevy cav

If u have a 2.2L, I have the same car and just replaced the thermostat and it took 10 times longer to find it than to replace it!!! There is a "Thermostat Housing" on the engine itself, front of motor, left side but IT DOESN'T GO THERE!!! There is a 2-Bold, 2 or 3 hose, bracket out in front, very accessible that it goes in!! I found mine just searching diagrams of chevy cavalier's and found it in a 03'!!! The place it goes comes off of the "Thermostat Housing" and runs right up front of the car, left side!!! Hope this helps some!!!!

Just need to know exactly where the thermostat is located... diagram pic would be nice

Most of the time a thermostat is located where the radiator hose goes into the engine block on top of thr engine not underneath the radiator.

98 JEEP CHEROKEE, TEMPERATURE GAUGE JUMPS AROUND TO HOT- BACK TO NORMAL, TO HOT WHILE DRIVING- JUST REPLACED THE RADIATOR. COULD THIS BE A THERMOSTAT PROBLEM?

did u bleed the air from the cooling system? if not u need to do that, u have air pockets getting around the thermostat, to bleed raise the front up as high as poss with a floor jack, fill the radiator and coolant recovery tank as full as poss, then run engine until it reaches normal temp, then shut it down and run cold water over the radiator, this will draw the coolant out and the system will bleed the air out.
