Was driving and the car suddenly went completely dead, electrical dash system, engine, power windows, everything just died. wouldnt restart. checked fuses under hood and the 50 amp fuse was blown. replaced it twice on the side of the road trying to get car started. it blew every fuse i put in. replaced the crank fuse and the electrical system worked when i turned the key but when i turned it all the way to crank it the ignition fuse blew again. tried replacing the ignition fuse 2 more times and they both blew. any idea what i can do?????

Sounds like a short in the wiring, or a bad fan motor drawing too much current. Check the wiring for shorts, if none are found, replace the fan motor.

Remove a battery terminal for 5 min. This will allow the computer to reset. Resecure the cable and try to start.

Check to see if you emission system sensors are plugged in, such as the air intake sensor which is plugged into the air hose at the front of the engine. Another possibility is your gas cap. Replace it, its very cheap. If it only occurs at higher speeds it may be clogged injectors. Dump a bottle or two of injector cleaner into the gasoline tank after a fill-up. You might also try some octane booster which is methanol and will mix with and help remove any water in your fuel tank.

Testimonial: "Well, thanks for the opinion, even though I read it after fixing my problem. It was indeed a short, as the cover for the wiring harness was missing, and apparently a wire had rubbed bare and was shorting against the valve cover. I couldn't actually see the bad spot, but by carefully moving it I isolated the spot and taped it up really good and put a new cover in place. Thanks for the quick reply though!"
