P0441 Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge FlowOBD-II Trouble Code Technical Description

Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow
What does that mean?

This indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer functioning correctly. The EVAP system consists of many parts, including (but not limited to) the gas cap, fuel lines, carbon canister, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

EVAP emission canister purge is controlled by a valve which allows engine vacuum to pull stored fuel vapors from fuel tank into the engine to be burned, rather than be vented to atmosphere. A vacuum switch is used to detect when flow exists. If the PCM commands purge and sees that the switch is closed (indicating no detected purge flow) P0441 is set.
Symptoms

Likely, no symptoms will be discernible to the driver, other than the illuminated Check Engine Light.
Causes

A code P0441 could mean one or more of the following has happened:

  • Bad vacuum switch
  • Broken or damaged EVAP line or canister
  • Open in PCM purge command circuit
  • Open or short in Voltage feed circuit to Purge Solenoid
  • Faulty purge solenoid
  • Restriction in EVAP solenoid, line or canister
  • Corrosion or resistance in purge connector
  • Bad PCM
Possible Solutions

With a P0441 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:

  • Common Chrysler fix - Replace Leak Detection Pump / LDP
  • Repair damaged EVAP lines or canister
  • Repair open or short in voltage feed circuit to Purge Solenoid
  • Repair open in PCM purge command circuit
  • Replace purge Solenoid
  • Replace vacuum switch
  • Repair restriction in Evap line or canister or solenoid
  • Repair resistance in purge connector
  • Replace PCM

Other EVAP DTCs: P0440 - P0441 - P0442 - P0443 - P0446 - P0453 - P0455 - P0456

It is always best to start simple on a lot of these things. This code indicates that somewhere in the evaporative system you have a leak that has set off the code. The gas cap is the most common culprit and that is where I would start. Buy a new gas cap and put it on. It may and should solve your problem. A lot of gas caps have rubber seals that do wear out over time. If this does not solve your problem simply use a search engine and type in p0441 a wealth of information will pop up. There are other possible causes and solutions but that's where I would start (with the gas cap)

SOURCE: 2000 Hyundai Accent GL check engine

i just replaced the timing belt, and asked the garage to look at the transmission for me because i thought i was experiencing some subtle shifting problems. they told me the transmission looked fine, but i needed a new filter and fluid. the engine light didnt turn on til a couple weeks later tho. does this sound like a new filter and fluid would fix this problem?

You have a vacuum leak. This means that you will need to go through all of the vacuum likes and make sure they are connected and not broken. If they are broken buy new vacuum line, its like less and $1 per foot. In your case if you can I would replace all of the vacuum lines if they look cracked and old.

P0441 code evap for Hyundai Accent 2004

You can clear the code and see if it comes back first.
Code 441 is for incorrect purge flow which means the computer vented the gas tank to the vapor canister and the flow went the wrong direction or there was a vac when there should not have been.
If the code returns a mechanic will need to check the gas tank vent.

My check engine light came on while driving my 2001 hyundai accent, when i try to accelerate it hesitates acts like it might die. what do you think?

Mass Air Flow Sensor or the EGR Valve or Oxygen sensor. It honestly could be a lot of things so before you just start throwing money at it I would look to see what is going on. Your local auto parts store should read the code for free

Usualy the check engine light reports a malfuction in your engine performance system, it coulb be a misfire, bad sensors, vaccum leak, you need to have your engine code read from a garage or an auto parts store that offers the service for free.

CODE DTC HUNDAY ACCENT 2001

Hello there! Here is a break down of the majority of the codes you posted and an explanation.
First of al the P1402 + P1403+ P0441 are all connected.
P1402- DMTL Motor Circuit
P1403- DMTL Valve
P0441- Gross evaportive emissons leak (of the least concern of all codes)
P1402 +P1403 are both in connection with the Charcoal canister. Generally over fueling a vehicle cause these codes. Hyundai's are particular prone to this issue due to emissons control locations. Simply put a DTML is a sensor. There is 2 of these particular ones on your car. One mounted at the engine and one connected to the throttle body. Fuel more than likely has contaminated the charcoal canister. If only one of the codes were set i'd assume it was just a wiring issue. More than likely the canister and solonoid need to be replaced. Obviously checking the wiring should be done first. Corrison or a broken wire also could cause these codes to trip.
P1632- Transmission Temp Pull-Up Resistor issue. I am not a Hyundai Tech so I don't have allot of experiance with there transmisson codes. However the same code with same function is listed on the F-body site(GM). I would correct the other 3 and go from there. I assure you that poor engine performance would definately cause transmisson issues, especially with the shift points. Especially with a transmisson like yours that is totally electrically controlled. Please let me know if any of this makes more sense. If need be I can elborate more.
