A loose belt will not cause the engine to shut off. a loose belt will squeel. it almost sounds like the AC compressor might of locked up and it causing your neon to shut off. if your neon doesnt have ac or the ac is working properly then its something else.

2003 Dodge neon sxt had AC compressor replaced ever since had strange noise now power steering. Went out

Two separate belts. Power steering has it's own belt. Either belt broke or pump went bad. Has nothing to do with the AC system. Just bad luck.

Serpiten belt is lose

Have to loosen pivot bolt at bottom of power steering, plus top adjustment and use 1/2" drive bar in hole supplied in bracket to add tension, then re-tighten.

On my '87 Caravan, why does the car shut off whenever I turn the steering wheel/car? What do I do to make it stop?

Sounds like a loose belt-maybe the belt that controls your power steering ALSO controls the alternator. Check your belt tension, if that's the case, they're probably so worn they need replacing by now. At least tightening the belt might help.

Hope this helps.

Steering went out what to do

Is the belt that turns the power steering pump loose or broken? You mention replacing the tensioner, so I'm guessing the belt is too loose. If it isn't spinning the power steering pump, the steering would be very difficult. The tensioner should have a mark on it which helps to determine if it is worn and needs replacement. This is a good time to replace the belt also, if needed. Once the tensioner is replaced, you will still have difficulty with the steering wheel and ignition until you can start the car. You might try to raise the front end, so turning the steering wheel will be somewhat easier. A slight turn to the right or left should allow you to get the key to turn, and once started, it should be ok.
