Yesterday I had my Chevy Aveo in again to find out why the lights flash. It starts when the weather gets cool 40 degrees. They reprogrammed the computer yesterday and he said it was working. This morning I warmed up the car and drove 2 blocks before it started again. When I started the car to come home they started flashing again. It didn't happen all summer. Evidently the dealership needs some help with this problem. I sure do.
I also had the same problem, But the problem lies in the switch the actual hold switch on my aveo there is a side entry way you can pop off the one on the left will give you access to the switch. what could of happen is theres is condensation in inside the switch. then when it gets cold it freezes causing the switch to malfunction. This could happen either by spilling something on the switch or using a cleaning solvent like armorall, YOU MUST BE CAREFULL WITH ANYTHING LIQUID NEAR THE HOLD SWITCH. Also the car going from warm when you drive then cold when you park it at night. My car was in warranty and remind you I came up with is the dealership had no idea what was wrong. they reseted the computer it worked for a week then was happening again. I have knoweldge in switches/wiring so i decided to check pot the switch and open it up and sure enough there was condensation took it to dealer told them to try a new switch works perfect and going on 5 months with out problems. Replacing the switch can solve pretty much every problem that is stated here i think. Also take a look at the wiring and connections for older aveos
My problem is more a complaint i thought my timing busted on my 2005 aveo but wasnt the case it was the timing pulling tensioner broke into pices made out of plasitc made in china. and i still owe over 5gs for this pile of sh*t i think that gm should have a recall on this part this bs!!!!!!
You can take it to autozone they will check it for free and tell you what the problem is and which sensor it is ...that way a shop cant tell you you need other parts you dont need. hopes this helps.........
14 years too late but here is a solution. Ambient Air Temperature Sensor needs to be checked. Located on the air box snorkel. Run a live scan on your car with a scanner and check that temp. If it is bad, it will read -40 degrees and that light will trip and it will run like garbage. It's a security limp mode telling you there is a problem.
Bad gasoline
The engine light in my aveo kept flashing and then it would go off. Now it is on all the time. That just started yesterday afternoon. When I took it to AutoZone, their reader wouldn't connect to my car...just kept saying it was trying to communicate with the vehicle. I just sunk a lot of money into the car because my thermostat couple melted, burning a hole in the coolant hose & due to that, the water pump cracked. I got that all replaced, as well as the timing belt. Just got it back THREE days ago & this has now started. I'm extremely frustrated so if anyone has a solution to the engine light problem, or if it is a switch problem also, let me know.
My 2005 aveo is having the same problems. Does anyone have any solutions and pricing?

On one side of the clock is the engine light. On the other side is a light that flashes the word hold. Also next to the shift is a hold button. I have taken it to the dealership and they can't figure out what is wrong and they don't charge me since I have had it in a number of times when it was still in warranty. Both the engine light and the hold light flash but only when the weather is cool. It doesn't happen all summer. Maybe it just hates cold weather.
along with the check engine light and hold light flashing my car will rumble when it comes to a stop. I have been told by two different repair shops that it is a misfire issue. Had the plug wires replaced at one shop and ignition wires and spark plugs done at another shop. The car ran okay for about 2 days and started back up again. These repairs so far have cost me $900 and I am taking it back to the shop again tomorrow. I was also told that it could be the transmission but that had now been dismissed. Has anyone had this issue resolved because I am about out of money (warranty expired) and have 2 years left to pay on this piece of ****.
I also have had the same problem, last winter i had the sensor changed 3 times until the dealership told me there was nothing wrong with my car and that I was no longer welcome on thier property. Low and Behold 17 degress this morning the hold light flashes after a 20 minute warm up and the car does not want to shift. So 300 bucks in deductables later and 20 minutes late for work and the problem still presents itself. I know longer trust this car or the Gm company itself...and to think we are now bailing them out...who bailed me out last year when this car left me and my children on the side of the road in 20 degree weather?????????
I have the same problem with engine and hold lights coming on car runs bad, stop restart and its good again for a little while and only in cold weather and it also does not shift right away. It will rev high for ten minutes some time and then settle down and run good.
Is it the check engine light that is flashing? And what are the hold lights
Guest, The rumbling may be your distributor or your distributor cap. Have they checked this yet?
