The check electronic control throttle light came on twice within three months. Complete shut down no acceleration. Pulled off highway turned key off and waited a minute or two and it started and ran fine so far. Will this continue to happen and maybe the next time I won't be so lucky to start again.

We ended up taking the vehicle to a trusted auto repair shop. The codes came up indicating a failed throttle body, most likely in the electronics. After a few more pinpoint tests, the recommendation was to replace the throttle body. The cost for this repair was just under $500. Since there is no aftermarket on this part, Genuine Ford parts were used.

The ETC is located inline with the air intake hose. Take the air intake hose off, then take the ETC off. Go to advanced auto or autozone and get carb cleaner or throttle body cleaner. Give the ETC a good bath and put it back on that should fix the problem and save you $600 or more in repair. This is a typical problem with the ETC when you start to get high miles. Hope this helps it help me.

This is one of them faults thats very difficult to diagnose but if what you say is right then i would change the drivers door lock ,they are repairable as they are a sealed unit on these cars, but i did have a similar problem with a petrol version on one of the first models of these cars about a 99 or 2000 as i remember and it would play up just like this ,open and close the door lock with key three times and it started.then be ok for a week then not start again so i had the key man down with his programmer and he checked it out for the key remote and found nothing wrong with either the master or the spare key and he said try changing the door lock because he had this problem before with other ford focus models and mondeos .Change the lock and it was ok for a week but the owner sold the car for a new car on the scrappage scheme so i never did find out it was ok after that

We have been experiencing same faults on a 2005 Expedition, with engine stopping and the message "Check electronic throttle". Ifirst went to AutoZone and they read the codes. They suggested replacing thethrottle sensor, which we did, but car stopped again. We had to replace thebattery in a month and this is the fix. The battery was almost 6 years old andwhen you first start your engine, it sucks too much load and gives these faultsto the computer. It never stopped since then (3 mo already). Sometimes we useto get the message 3 times a day.
