98 Civic Auto Trans Slippage

VIN: -->1HGEJ6678WL022623; LX Sedan 4 Speed Automatic

Automatic transmission in a 1998 Civic LX (w/145k) has a shifting problem between 2nd and 3rd gear. The shift will be not smooth and takes a second to engage into 3rd. Though if I drive harder and have it shift over 4500 RPM into 3rd, it will shift cleanly.

I did a quick look at the transmission fluid, the level looks fine, the color is light red. The transmission jumps/surges when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd, but only if it shifts below 4500 RPM. It is not a clean shift into 3rd. It will rev up a little before going into 3rd. Otherwise, the other shifts, 1st to 2nd, 3rd to 4th, are smooth.

Tried a bottle of Lucas OIl- no help!

Anybody have any ideas????

I have the same problem. I own a Civic LX 98 automatic transmission and it takes a few seconds to engage 3rd gear. It makes driving very uncomfortable, yet I havent tried it over 4500rpm. I dont want to think its the whole transmission I have to replace...

I have the same problem of the slippage between 2nd and 3rd. I took it to a trans. shop, they said they have to get into the trans. to fix it which would be costly. They told me to drive it until it gets worse. That was at 97K now I'm at 212K and it is not any worse. Most of my miles are highway.

You need to replace clutch pack for that gear can be ordered seperately from parts store or dealer if you want to save money call peach street auto recycling at 1800-365-2341 for a warrantied used one! also might be time for change trans filter and fluid filter could be slightly clogged but I lean towards clutch pack I replace these alot on Hondas

I have a 1997 Honda LXI (Philippine dealer). The automatic transmission (specially for reverse) takes a while to engage. Sometimes you have to rev up before it engages

Where is 1-2shift solenoid valve located on a Saturn Vue 3.6

The 1-2 shift solenoid valve on a Saturn Vue 3.6 is typically located in the transmission. The exact location of the solenoid valve can vary depending on the year and model of the vehicle, but it is commonly found inside the transmission's valve body. The valve body is the area of the transmission that houses the shift valves and controls the flow of transmission fluid to control the gear shifts.
It's important to note that accessing and replacing a shift solenoid valve on a transmission can be a difficult and complex task that requires special tools and knowledge. It is not recommended to attempt this repair unless you have experience working on transmissions and have the proper tools and equipment. It's also important to consult the Saturn Vue 3.6 service manual or a professional mechanic or transmission specialist to have the proper steps and safety procedures to follow.

Where is the TRANSMISSION INPUT SPEED SENSOR?

so did not check all fuses first?
then scan the PCM for all transmission DTC errors first?
oops.
1999 dodge durango 5.9L (46RE TRANS i GUESS)
there is no , in or on tranny input speed sensor
the PCM uses ENGINE RPM for that. (crank sensor RPM, CKP)
if you scan the PCM you will not see DCT error for input speed sensor there is none.

Trouble Code: P0753 (5.9L V8 VIN Z Auto)
A/T 3-4 Solenoid/Transmission Relay Circuit Failurenone there below. but sure CKP is. crank speed
and SOL 2 and gov pressure, are key.

99-undefined-undefined-0.jpgSOLENOID 2 bad? above.
why are you not scanning it first. for DTCs
what if governor pressure signals are wrong. pin 29
what if the scan told you it was. likethis.
examples
Trouble Code: P0700 (5.9L V8 VIN Z Auto)
Automatic Transmission Control System Malfunction
Trouble Code: P0711 (5.9L V8 VIN Z Auto)
A/T Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Signal - No Rise After StartupTrouble Code: P0705 (5.9L V8 VIN Z Auto)
A/T Check Shifter Signal Circuit Malfunction''
Trouble Code: P0715 (5.9L V8 VIN Z Auto)
A/T Input Speed Sensor Circuit MalfunctionISS is what? (CKP is my guess)

lots more on gear errors
then
Trouble Code: P0748 (5.9L V8 VIN Z Auto)
A/T Governor Pressure Solenoid/Transmission Relay Fault783 is last one. lots of P07 errors on this box
all covered in the service manual in detail.
learn that some cars the PCM has what are called virtual or derived sensors, like engine load is (used to shift too)
and inputs speed, is CKP sensor and ABS the 4 sensors abs are averaged to do speed.(mph)
but in this case it is crank speed CKP
no PCM schematic shows any ISS at all

one can not fix modern cars lacking a SCAN tool, USA OBD2 .
not really and ASE class Day 1,
read all TSBcheck all fusesscan it.service manual online, great !

the RE is electric shifted the older RH is hydramatic, shifted and not the same thing,so how can if fail.
sure speed sensors sure.but what else.
the pcm fails to pick he 3rd gear soleniodthe PCM is in limp mode.the gov signal sensor is bad. and wrong (not sure how to replace it me., output sensor dead. (no)PCM sees gross CKP errors crank RPM way off or skips.low pump pressure in the transservo drive to band failing and no 3rd gear. possible.more simply after scan replace this set kit.https://www.ebay.com/itm/194076774950?hash=item2d2fe09226:g:flYAAOSwX9FZKCwl&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA8Auj9VxgzbBbY1y72FuSN8kY5Rr6S3No4BqIm0Ahxvpol8ifEkPhCjcL9RfwxI1dPT9gboPhrqEcTmFagdyeF9TiffbFSjrtI7XOnIbc8G%2F6JCafmPc6idA7aFhq5Y%2FTxfPDpQyhD1vs1akPE%2FD%2FoH3e9fD3d%2BwcwGu4N0GMG1fIDbLPAnG6cWwwzGUd9zPVWm9tFxHxI1viGJn2aLG7%2F3zQjo4VHwpnCeea9lwjV18DOhcloDRRJMzBojw3Hfb8xJdJUJb2cwSgy1LKickqaxU8QdQHy2zv8NBG1ACbb3ZN%2FE9bD%2FlT1cBqykbdirlNlA%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4SKlvbYYA

recap and conclusions. electronic shifted trans. TCM
not getting 3rd gear has many causes:
I'd hazard a guess that pump output pressure and regulator are working in the box. (1 >>2shifts ok)
3rd gear solenoid not dead?
and the lies told by governor pressure sensor, makes the TCM shift wrong (computer GiGo logic) caused.
3rd gear servo piston dead.
or some odd Limphome mode, (iDK them all) (ignoring DTC errors? ) Some trans in limp slip a gear.
The governor must see tail shaft speeds correctly or it will not up-shift all the way.

a scan tool can be bought or rented. or ask others to scan it, any shop can, or some Autostores can
there is no reason no to scan it after fuses check, unless 3 gear is needed to get there (hummmmmmm)
$100
also the tool pays for it self (it's free man) the first $100 in labor not spent,. amazing facts no?
a real scan tool not $20 lame code reads,
a real tool see all Dodge codes.
cheaper readers only show DTC errors only with "CEL lamp ON"< , P07xxx code (7 means transmissions errors)
better tools start at %100

launch band can, CRP123

2010 Honda Civic location of output speed sensor

OK , ALL WE GET HERE IS HUNTS.
is it auto matic trans or manual stick shifted, hummmmmmmmm?
CVT trans or 5AT or? hybrid, (3 choices not told)
no engine told , no transmission told (matched) and no country told
must we engage the "super hyper ESP , command drive", sure
answering for USA car. (and auto shifted)
omg they are not the same car , all over earth, NO.!!!
2010 is generation 8th of 11.
sedan or coupe?????????????????????
output speed sensor i guess someone scanned the cars PCM and belched out DTC secret untold code>> (what if you looked up DTC wrong, ouch)
double ouch.(fibbing to me)
27 body styles in USA> sold. 2door and 4 and omg HYBRID cars.
NO USA VIN told to look up and gee, what is there is patently obvious..
2door DX CAR. KA , 5AT CAR. 5 SPEED BOX !
There is my wild and near useless guess, but shows you how to learn what is under the hood, (NO VIN told NO JOY)
gee the honda dealer, flat (parts) refused to to talk to you lacking the VIN.
engine 1.8liters (guess) gas or CNG? (natural gas compressed)

or 2.0L? or 1.3L , oops lots.
5AT box.? (I guess this)
the problem with transmission vast on this car are
that some sensors can be deep inside the box. OK
super common that now..
or speed sensors are not used there, due to ABS x4 sensors are all that is needed, like my 08 up jeeps do.
see???????????????
why the hunt post, why not scan the PCM and post all DTC there,
and ask what to do and end this silly useless hunt stuff.???

but I will now show the DTC reports for all speed sensors
2010 DX civic USA.
one car manual states (usa DX)

below is VIN decode on just the DX civic, a wild guess of 27 models sold in USA> see the engine code, see door code'
and transmissions,
vin-undefined-undefined-1.jpg
learn to post what's wrong first/
state evidence and symptoms first.
car shifts funny? and scanned it? and got a bunch of DTC errors and some internet dweebs told you wrong (endless)<<sure !!!
the codes in the HONDA manual only matter.
for sure DTC P07xx errors or any other P1,P2XXX CODES
OR ANY NONE P0XXX CODE MUST BE LOOKED UP IN THE SERVICE MANUAL HONDA FOR the correct model
sorry but that is how the cookie crumbles on todays complex cars.
for sure lots of computers on board, for sure.

NO DTC told NO JOY ever.

Honda civic 1994 automatic trans slipping when reaccelerate

I would take this tranny in for a total rebuild. this tranny may be headed for a major breakdown and, slippage usually is a great sign for massive transmission failure to come, considering that, you are burning transmission fluid.
