You must also remove the clips that hold the latches that mechanically move the latches. This can be troublesome, so have some patience and don't throw anything.

Is there any special tools or requirements for removing and installing a new exterior (drivers side) door handle. Please describe the process. Thank you.

nope, just wind the window down, remove screws around the arm rest, pull panel out from door releasing plastic retainers, slide panel up out of window seal, remove plastic door dust shield , wind window up and you will be able to access handle through the inside of door, remove latch rod clip from handle, remove two bolts that screw to handle and thats it. Of course replace in opposite procedure

2000 Silverado Exterior Door Handle

If you have the panel off, just look up at were the outside door handle is mounted. You need to unbolt the rest of what is left....usually a metric fastner. Next, there should be 2 small access holes, probably covered by plastic sheeting. These holes are for the socket to reach them. There are a few clips that need to be popped loose from the rods but take your time and use a thin flat tipped screwdriver. And when you go to reinstall the new handle, you'll have to manipulate the handle into the door skin or the "hole" where the door handle goes.

Just take your time and you can do this.

Good luck!

How to install exterior door handle on 95 Safari Van

hi, remove the entire door interior panel, keep notes and diagrams as you go, even take pics, usually the exterior handle is secured by 2 small screws or nuts, undo these and the handle will detach . there will be a small rod connected to this handle by a small clip or similar. reassembly is a reversal of the entire process, just take your time

Broken inside door handle-1996 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab

On almost all GM's there will be a screw in the recess that the handle sits in. After removing this screw, gently wiggle this cup out of it's hole and there should be a metal rod attached to the back of it with a small clip. Unclip this and it's out - installation is the reverse. Just don't lose the clip or let the linkage rod fall down inside or you will have to remove the door panel. It shouldn't take five minutes to replace and most parts stores now carry GM door handle assemblies. Good Luck!

How to replace inside door handle on 1996 Checvy Silverado?

This is VERY common on these Trucks. My 1995 Silverado has done it Several Times. First you are going to need Door Panel Clips to replace the Ones that you will Break taking off the Door Panel. Any Decent Auto Parts Store Carries them. VERY Straight Forward from there on. For the Exterior Handle-Remove All clips and Screws once inside the Door and Replace. Make sure to put the Rubber Seal on the New Handle or it will leak! For the Inside Handle- Remove the Pin connecting the Old handle and Replace with the New once you get the Door Panel off it is Really Easy from there on!
