The vegicle is a 1998 GMC Sierra. The product was a Permatex adhesive using a two solution process. I'm wondering if the metal patch is preventing adhesion to the windshield or whether I need an adhesive that will bond the button to the metallic patch as opposed to the glass in most common applications.

I have an 89 GMC Sierra 1500, I have no power stee...

Sounds like you have air in the steering system. Raise the front of the truck up and set on jack stands to where it will no interfear with the steering. Block the rear tires on truck to keep it from rolling. Make sure the the steering pump is full of fluid before start to remove air from system. Turn the key on and start the engine, then turn the wheel to the very far right and hold for 1 minute. then turn it to the far left and hold it for 1 minute. Do this several times and check the fluid in the pump from time to time to keep it full. This should help to get the air that is trapped in the steering out. Hope this will help you.
