2001 Chrysler Concorde 2.7 liter engine vehicle: there is only ONE Instrument Panel Display illumination bulb which does not appear to be functioning. It is the illumination for only one instrument on the far left end of the dashboard panel. How do I change that one bulb and what kind of bulb is it?

Circuit Description
Ignition voltage is supplied to the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). The powertrain control module (PCM) turns the MIL ON by grounding the MIL control circuit.
MIL Operation
The MIL is located on the instrument panel (IPC).
MIL Function ?€¢
The MIL informs the driver that a malfunction has occurred and the vehicle should be taken in for service as soon as possible.

The MIL illuminates during a bulb test and a system test.

A DTC will be stored if a MIL is requested by the diagnostic.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check-Engine Controls?

1. Turn OFF the ignition.
2. Disconnect the PCM.
3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
4. Observe the MIL.

Is the MIL illuminated?
Go to Step 3
Go to Step 5

1. Remove the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
2. Test the MIL control circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 6
Go to Step 4

Replace the IPC. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 6

Replace the PCM. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement .

It may not be a bulb, as the instrument cluster usually has a number of bulbs and they probably didn't all blow at once. Pulling instrument clusters can be touchy and may not be for the average "shadetree mechanic" however, typically there are a few screws above the cluster going into the dash pad and a few hidden behind the trim panels below the cluster.

this is a pretty simple fix, even though the screen is LCD, the illumination is from a small bulb on the back side of the instrument cluster. pull the instrument cluster out, and replace the bulb!

Did this happen after the batt was replaced, the BCM controlls the cluster illumination, radio, evic, might be issue there, there is a software update for this module 2001-2002, if not , only half of lights work, sounds like the rest are burnt out, R+R the cluster and replace the bulbs, get them from Dodge, GOOD LUCK, RDJRP

once you have removed the cluster, instrument panel on the back there might be a cover remove it carefully you can usually tell which bulb is blown cause it will be black in color pull it out carefully and replace you might check all the bulbs while you are there

sounds like you have a problem with your alarm system. likely the ignition switch is the problem.

Hi stan, 3 and 4 just sound like a bulb remove the instriment pack and try two new bulbs.  2 is the one to think abount i think this is only one led bulb if you move the lever does the light flash, there is a setting for this    D
