Hi I have a 2001 Saab Viggen convertable, The top just started to fail, I can release it from the windshield, the top raises the back of it comes up and the lid opens then as it is going back I hear a wierd noise and I get an error. I spoke to a mechanic how said, without looking at the car, that it is the bracket that holds the rod from the motor. That Saab has an updated bracket. Can this be possible? He said $1200.00 to fix it if I can even get the parts... says 90% of the time it is the bracket, can this be true? I have never had a problem with the top of this car before. I am the original owner.

May sound a little stupid im just trying to cover all bases but have you made sure the car is unlocked. If the car is locked then the fuel door will be locked.

SOURCE: 2001 saab 93 convertible top problem

If you lower the back seat you will see a plastic cover on the botom of the opening. Remove the cover (6 appolstry fasteners) to reveal a metal box. The box is not actually a box but a cover for the hydrolic pump. Remove the fscrews from the lid and lift. The resevouar is clear and easy to check against the two fill lines on the side.

SOURCE: 99 SAAB convertible, top takes a long time to open and close now.

The most common reason for this is low hydraulic fluid. The noise is probably the pump running while empty. When fluid id present it dampens that noise. Behind the rear seat is the combination motor/pump/reservoir. With the top in the DOWN position, fill the reservoir with ATF and cycle the system a few times as far as it will go. Repeat until the reservoir will take no more fluid. If that works, it is only a patch fix. You must now inspect the lines, motor and cylinders for leaks. The fluid does not evaporate. If it is low, you have a leak. Karl at topgunwon.com

SOURCE: SAAB 900 convertible 1995 - hood problem tonneau motor

I just went through HELL because my top would not go down! I did EVERY possible solution with NO AVAIL! So anyway, Im in the trunk and noticed a baggy sack hanging in the trunk.. So I figured it was for the roof.. Anyway the sack has 2 straps to hold it up for more room when the top is UP. So I said "I Wonder...." I released the straps and the bag hung again, and GUESS WHAT? Yea the roof works!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SOURCE: 1997 Saab Convertible top is broken, and the rain is coming in!

the rear of the top under the back window is drawn down into place and latched by its own motor that simply pulls or pushes two rods. If the motor stopped moving for whatever reason, simply fold down the back seat, reach your arm through the little access at the top of the boot on the drivers side and pop the rods out of place and latch/unlatch manually. this takes a flashlight and some inspection time to do at first if you dont know what your feeling for.

i have the same problem with my 98 900s

How does a manual top work on a 1998 BMW 323 I??

I believe you do this in this order. Roll windows down, release the latch at the top of the windshield, raise the front of the top, release rear cover by pulling the latch near the rear seat, Pull up the back of the top and then pull up on the rear cover. The back of the top should now fit into the opening under the rear cover. Continue to fold the top into this space. Push down on the rear cover to lock (won't be able to open trunk if not engaged.) To raise it, release rear latch cover, open rear cover and pull top out of opening. Raise rear of top so you are able to now close the rear cover, set rear of top down on cover and then pull fron of top down and engage the fraont latch. Hoe that helps.

1999 Saab 9-3 convertible. Motor to top is dead. $1600.00 to replace. I know I can make the top come down manuelly but how?

There is a manual release behind the rear seat on the passenger side. Pulling it releases the tonneau motor plate away from the gears, allowing top to be raised and lowered manually.Once this release is used, the back bottom edge of the top will never seat against the tonneau again until the top is repaired.

Resetting my convertible to work after I used the manual release to put the top up

After a manual raise or lower of the convertible top using the red latch behind rear seat....Gap in cover near window right ? Unhitch the cover on the passenger side rear near gas tank and inside you'll see the convertible motor. The rear level disengages the motor so you can move the top manually. Snap the motor back into place and then push the top control to fully close the top eliminating the gap. Then you'll have to find out why it stopped in the first place.
