1999 Saturn SL ; having problem with starting the car. had altanater, batery, and starter tested . altanator not putting out enough charge ; therefore killing battery. replaced altanator, put batery o

I bought the car a few months ago and it was very sluggish. when giving it gas from a complete stop it would chock on its self. i would have to feather the gas untill it would break free and take off . felt like it was not getting gas to all of a sudden the line cleard and off it would go and i could shift into 2nd gear.and so on I would have to keep a high RPM inorder to up shift or it would choke again. the air conditioner would **** the motor of much of it's power. you can feel the motor bogg way down . I replaced plugs and wires and it seemes to of cured the chockng effect. still feel AC pulling power but not nearly as bad. down side of this is: after replacing plugs and wires the car started over heating causing it to spew coolant out of flow tank. Even though the guage never reaches the middle mark.

1999 Saturn SL having random starting problems

Hey man it sounds like it could be a few different things. If you can pop the clutch and get it runing nothing is wrong with your engine. First i would try cleaning both battery terminals and cables then clean the connection at the starter. To do so remove the wiring and clean off any dirt or corrosion with a wire brush. I have seen this quite a few times bad connection at the starter keeps it from getting enough power. If that does not solve the problem your starter may be going out.The easiest way is to remove it and take to your local auto parts store they can test for you and usually for free.

My Saturn sl 3 door. 1999 1.9 L. When i went out to start it , it just clicks. We have a brand new Duracell battery on 3 weeks ago.

First jump it from a car with a running engine. If it starts then you most likely have a bad charging system and that is why your battery s dead. Remove the alternator and get it tested at autozone. If it does not start with a jump then you need to see if the starter is good, remove that and get it tested. If the starter is good, then you have something binding the crankshaft and a replacement used engine most likely the cheapest way out.

R&R the starter on a 91-01 S series Saturn is not easy, look on youtube.com for a video. They all have the same engine block and the starter is in the same place, on the back jammed between the engine and the firewall, under the intake.

My 1999 saturn sl, everytime i go to start my car its dead, i dont leave my lights on or anything, (battery problem) what kind of battery does this model car have?

well the battery could be refusing to take much of a charge, the alternator might not be putting out enough to keep the car running and charge the battery. or there could be something draining the battery, even with the ignition in off position. you can take the battery and alternator into advance or autozone for a test, but the drain problem is going to take some trouble shooting. things which are on even when off can be the remote door locks, remote starter, lights in the glove box and trunk. if you have aftermarket stuff like custom radios, GPS, etc. are usually put in by someone who does not know what they are doing so i would start there.

Starting / Cranking is a problem: With key ignition, turn; there's a slient buzz noise. Head lights and dash board lights come on, however it doesn't respond to crank. Weak response is battery sometimes...

This could be a battery thats bad and doesnt have enough voltage or the starter is bad, easy to figure out, have the battery tested if its bad then replace it but if it tests good then i would replace the starter and also have the charging system checked to make sure the alternater is charging the battery up. hope this is helpful.

Dead

Yes that will be the alternator gone bad (Won't be chargeing)

to varify this just take the small wire off the altanator (NOT THE BIG THICK OUT PUT WIRE!)

And put it to the caseing of the engine and the battery lights will come on! thisprives it is the alternator at fault!

just make shure that the altanator is not rubber mounted if it is (rare) it will have its own earth to the caseing may have snaped will cause same effect but you would see it any way if it was!

Replace altanater if that all checks out. NO USE GUESSING MAKE SHURE WITH SIMPLE TEST LIKE THIS ONE!

Have a good one...................Bruce

Wont crank over, tried slitly. battery testered ok. just clicks. could be the starter?

battery might have power but not enough to start vehicle boost or put a charger on battery and try to start if starts have battery and alternator tested [load test] most auto stores do this for free-- if does not start check connections and wiring to starter if good than starter needs to be tested may have short
