Problem starting have a smart key and cannot get car started....tried putting the smart key in the console receptacle, but still will not start. Battery seems to be fine; think it has to do with security system as the brake is stiff... had this issue before and they replaced some chip or sensor that locks the brake to prevent starting... KIA service engineer told me how to get it started, but can't remember...now it's Sunday and they are not open...:-(

Keep your foot off the brake pedal. Push the start button 2times untill all instrument pannel lights come on. then press start button in untill the car starts. This will bypass the brake switch. You may not have brake lights but this will get you out of a jam.

What they did was upgrade the system here try this its from Kia.
Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position.
4. Transmitter Programming Procedure:
1. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position. Do not start the engine.
2. Locate the "disarm/programming" button which is secured to the remote start wire harness behind the left lower dash panel.
3. Press and hold the "disarm/programming" button for 10-15 seconds until the horn beeps 3 times.
4. Release the "disarm" programming button.
5. Press the red Find/Panic button on the remote start transmitter one time. The horn will beep one time indicating that the transmitter code has been learned. Repeat for each additional transmitter.
6. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position.
5. Function Check:
Refer to the vehicle specific "Remote Engine Start" installation instructions for a complete list of functions to be verified before delivering the vehicle.

SOURCE: 2004 Kia Sedona wont start but i can hear starter.

if the starter is revving very slowly it is the battery, charge battery. if not, It can be three things happing. 1 no spark 2 no fuel 3 no crank signal or the car computer is bad- you will need to unplug one of the spark wires and remove the spark plug and put the spark plug in the spark plug wire boot, and touch the spark plug on any metal on the car and have some start the car. donot touch the spark plug itself and see if there is a spark. if spark is bright, then it is not spark plug and wires but if no or spark is not bright, check the spark plug wires by applying a little bit of water on the spark plug wire and take a 12v test light, connect the clap to ground and and have some one to crank the vehicle, touch allover the spark plug wires with the tip of the test light, if you see spark, replace the wires and change the plugs.. they are not good. if spark is present, check for fuel by removing any one of the spark plugs and see if it is wet. if wet fuel pump is ok but if not go look for the fuel pump fuse and relay. is fuse blown, replace, check the relay resistor with a volt meter. it should be around 40 to 80 ohm. if everything is good from this point check the fuel pump itself by disconnecting the connector to the pump and apply 12v and ground using jumper wires or some wires to the fuel pump if you donot hear the pump, replace pump. if you, the crank signal or computer may be the problem

SOURCE: 2002 Kia Sportage will not start.

p0560 is system voltage problem. open or short between the battery positive and the ecm.CHECK ALL FUSES. dosnt matter what they are labeled under dash and under hood replace any that are bad and retry to start. no start then check voltage to ecm grounds to. i dont have a wireing diagram to give you but for a small fee or free the dealer can make you a copy.make sure all the wires that go to battery terminals are not corroded and are making good contact [verified with volt meter]. if after all checks ok then replace ecm. as a side note i havent had to change one ever.

Testimonial: "Thank you for the help. We will continue to check all fuses and wires."

try a battery reset.ie. disconnect battery neg terminal and leave 10mins reconnect and retry lock and unlock then see if the smart key is regonized if not check the smart key battery specialy the contacts it may be the key is not been reconized but if it cranks but not start may be a engine management system or fuel delivery problem if it has asked to insert smart key the key battery is poss flat.

Key wont start car

probably similar system to fords smart lock. they have a module located under the dash on the left of the steering wheel. a common fix for them is to hit the dash in that spot & it will always go. Just call an auto elec & ask if it has something like the smart lock module, if that is the probable cause, then how much to diagnose & repair.

I just purchased a 2008 Toyota Highlander with the smart key ignition system. How can I prevent being stranded if the smart system won't start the car?

If the smart key battery gets low to where it won't start the car you can hold the smart key with the logo facing the start button close to the button then push it to start the engine.

Car will not acept key

take key out of console. Then push down fairly hard on the insert-turn key area, it goes down about 1/2 inch----, while ---,,taking your other hand--push your finger into the base where the key would be--push down lightly your finger will go about 3 inches past the base-down to the bottom.

slowly pull your finger out ,, release pressure on the insert key -turn key area to the front of the key base area..

Now ,,put the key in the console key holder -turn to the right -Kazooom you are good for go. !

If this does not work ,,loosen the negative battery cable, with key in console ,disconnect for 30 seconds,, replace cable.. try to start . If not starting do the above procedure again as the computer memory is now blank.

Best bet,,BEFORE disconnecting any battery connection put the key in the console turn to the right, short of cranking the starter.Keep the key in this position
Then Disconnnect the battery--

When battery is reconnected, wait 3 minutes, then try the key for starting this usually works wonders. Doors must be closed,,, foot on brake pedal when starting..

My smart key is not working. i opened the door with the key part located inside the fob. is there a way to start the car with this key part? i do not see a key hole

Hello. Your smart key needs the battery replaced.

You can start the car, with a weak smart-key battery.

Position the smart key right above the start button. The Smart-key receiver will communicate with the smart key passively. The smart key must be held on the dash, above the start button.

The key isnt starting the car

Absolutely. Could also be that the smart key has a dead battery or has been compromised by moisture, etc.

Can you still lock & unlock the car with the smart key? If so, the battery is not dead, and you should look next at the ignition itself. Is there any response when you put the key in? Can you turn it? Are there signs that your battery is drained (dim/no lights work, etc)? If you are getting no response when you put the key in and you can turn it, and it still works to unlock your car and you can verify that you have battery power, start by checking your fuses. The ignition and starter fuses would be the first to check.
