Some days will go into gear other days I have to shift into drive then reverse and back to drive and than it wants to go
SOURCE: Gear shift is stuck in
there is a release on the brake pedal that lets the transmission shift out of park you should hear it click when you put your foot on the brake
SOURCE: car will not shift into gear
Sounds like a linkage/cable to me. Disconnect the linkage at the transmission and move the shift actuator by hand to see if there is the same things happening. Don't try to do this with the engine running unless someone is holding the brake inside the car.
SOURCE: 2004 Dodge Neon will not reverse.
Sounds like it could be worn gear linkages, which would stop you from being able to push the gearstick in to the reverse gate (usually by pushing the gear stick down or pulling a lever up under it). If you can get under the car take a look, there should be a set of joined poles leading out from where your gear lever is, check that all the connections on these are reasonably tight.

SOURCE: how to change gear shift cable on 2001 dodge dakota 2 wheel drive
the cable goes from the shifter to the transmittion arm,, both cable ends connect via a pin and cotter key (usually) the cable housing (black outside layer) is connected to the shifter frame usaually by a clip and is bolted to the transmittion with a couple bolts on the other end ,, i know this was pertty basic but hope it helped
