Where is the alternator located
First check to see which 3.0 engine you have. I'm going to assume the more commone 3.0 single overhead cam engine (8th vin U). If this is your engine, then the alternator is located on the passenger side of the engine compatment. You will see your belt that drives all of the accessories on the front of the engine. The alternator is the upper most pulley driven by this belt.

Try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins. This may reset the lights timer. If it comes back on within the next few days the take it to a large auto parts store and most will bring their computer out and hook it to your car and read the code the light will leave in your car computer, then they tell what the code says and try to sell you the part. You might car the auto parts store first and tell them what you have and ask if then can read your code for you.Its usually a free service.
