You must use the upgraded/replacement AWD transfer case fluid from the dealer. The blue stuff. It has a friction modifier to address this issue. Mine had the same problem.

1990 Astro AWD. AWD quit working overnight while parked!

AWD vehicles have a centre diff in the transfer case and if there is no traction on the rear wheels then the front wheels will not turn. All wheel drive is not equal to 4 wd which you assume apparently. Check that there is not a diff lock button in the car to lock the centre diff turning it into 4wd vehicle in which case the front wheels would have moved the vehicle

The GM AWD system uses a certain kind of fluid. When the fluid is old it doesn't grip as well and produces wheel hop. Try replacing that first. If it has alot of miles on it it's probably age and normal wear.

check to see if you have power steering fluid. if your low fill it up. (most cases thats all it is) check around for any leaks or parts to the power steering unit for and damage (hoses, pump, rer, rack and pinion, any seals or such. you might have a leak somewhere. when your looking for leaks fill the res up with power steering fluid. turn the car on. and have someone turn the wheel so get the fluid to build up pressure in the system.

2002 buick rendezvous groans when turning

The fluid in the versa trak AWD in the rear is old and needs to be drained and refilled. After you drain and refill it, make a bunch of sharp left and right hand turns, then drive it for 10 minutes. Drain and refill it for the second time and problem solved. Use only versa trak fluid available at any GM dealership. There is TSB on this now at the Buick dealership.

Tha AWD jumps and jerks in a tight turn (forward or reverse). I have changed the tansfer case fluid 3 times. Could it be the 4wd actuator? If so, where is it located on this vehicle?

can the 4wd settings be changed? it's commmon on a 4wd car to **** or jump on a tight turn. instead on the rear tires just pivoting they are trying to move forward. if it has an auto mode or a 2wd mode it might stop jerking. or don't turn so tightly. it's going to wear down the edges of your tires.

After vehicle is driven some distance and vehicle is hot the awd is binding up you can feel it as you drive around roundabouts and when you go to park and turn to full lock it binds up and make a clunking...

one thing you might want to check is your tire size. all 4 wheels have to be the same size or one spins faster or slower than the other which will cause drag on your awd.
