I am glad I came across this site! I have the same problem and it's hard for me because I have two babies on the back seat so I ended up taking the light bulb out of the dome so it won't bother their little eyes, especially at night. I'm not sure if it's the sensors in my car, though, because sometimes the car is perfectly fine and other times the door ajar light and inside light comes on and will stay on for several days until it turns off on it's own. What can it be?

Try using some WD40 in the door latches. Open and close the doors several times this should free up the sticking switch

I had the same problem. WD40 cured this in a flash! Be generous with the WD40 to allow parts to loosen and clean the "gue" that has built-up over the years. Several open and closings of the door should do the trick. Note that cold weather exasperates this condition. The best to you all in the new year!

WD40 fixed this problem on my 1998Taurus. Amazing what a little WD 40 can do if sprayed in the right spot. Thanks

Ford Taurus SE 1999. Dome Light - Door Ajar indicator problem. This is an intermittent problem, hence far more difficult to isolate. OK. I will be thorough in describing this "set of problems" as I do...

i must say that i feel your pain with this,, my door ajar light does the same thing but my dome light doesn't come on when the doors are open, i have to flick the switch on the dome light to make it come on. In my opion and i stress my opion it saounds like a issue with the body controller, im not sure what ford calls it but it controls all the body functions, i dont think the low coolant light is connected to the body contoller but i dont know this for sure, i think that light is controlled bny the engine ecm. some times a dealer can connect to the body controller and see if there are any fault codes for circuits that it controls and or monitors, also they can reflash or update the configeration and or calibration level cause ford release's fixes for issues all the time, same theory works for any control module on a vehicle. i dont think any of the auto parts stores have the right program to connect to bofy controlers but i could be wrong, worth looking into. i only put up with mine cause i use it as a beater, if you are worried about your dome light staying on and drianing your battery then you could pull out or disconnect the dome lights for the time being, its not a fix but just a band-aid.

The dome light does not turn off and the door ajar

the problem is door ajar switch located on one of the door latches just inside the door. what usually works is spraying wd40 or an electronic lubricant prayed liberally into the door latch and then opening and closing the door several times. the stuck switch is usually on the door that is the least used door like the passenger side rear. let us know how you make out.

Spray lubricant in the driver's and passenger door latches. One of the switches in the latch are sticking. Open and close the door several times to free up the switch.

Door ajar dash trouble and dome light stays on even if all doors

The door sensors will need to be replaced. A screws can be removed and then a wire can be taken of and you then can replace the switch.

PB BLASTER LUBE is the best to use on these latch assembleys you can buy it at your local parts store. spray all door latches really good and open and close doors 10 to15 times this usually frees up the stuck switch

1997 Tarus dome light and floor lights will not go out.

This is usually caused by the switches sticking in the door latches. Try spraying some WD40 in the latches and open and close the doors a bunch of times that should take care of it.
