I was listening to the personalization instructional cd with the key turned on but engine not started as per instructions . the battery went dead . i charged the battery back up and the car starts and runs fine but the radio/clock/cd player/dvd player/navagation system will not power up . there must be a simple fix to this such as turn the key on but dont start engine , press brake 3 times then press power button on radio/nav system . or somthing stupid like that ,but I dont know what it is . I just bought the car & dont have any owners manual
You need to gete the radio security code and enter it in. Just call or drop by the dealer and theye can give you the code or enter it. Should be free but your dealer may vary. When you changed the battery and lost power the radio goes into a secure mode just in case it was stolen. The code should be about 4 digets long so its not a big thing to enter. its keyed to your vin number so the d ealer may want to see that as well as your registtration and maybe a drivers licence depending on how paranoid they are.

I have had the same problem and I have come to the conclusion it is the security system. After 3 minutes the car will start so there is nothing wrong with the battery or starter. I have had it to the dealer a few times and they cannot solve it. It may be the locks on the doors and they may not be resetting properly. I have learned to live with it.

If your car has a chip in the key, then this is the definitive solution: http://newrockies.com/vatsbypass . It was the only thing that saved my Park Avenue.

THANK YOU MR DAVE KING , BUT THE RADIO WAS NOT SHOWING ANYTHING AT ALL , IT WAS AS IF IT WAS NOT GETTING ANY POWER , IF IT WAS NEEDING A SECURITY CODE IT WOULD SAY SECURITY OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT . ANY WAY MY RADIO CAME BACK UP ON IT'S OWN AFTER I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP THEY SAID THEY CHECKED ALL THE FUSSES AND SAID I SHOULD TAKE IT TO THE DEALER . I LOCATED MY BATTERY UNDER THE BACK SEAT . TO GET TO IT I LIFTED STRAIGHT UP ON THE FRONT OF THE BACK SEAT AND SLID THE SEAT FORWARD THAT IS ALSO WHERE A FUSE PANEL IS . I LOOKED AT FUSE # 23 , IT WAS GOOD AND I PUT IT BACK . AFTER THAT MY RADIO CAME UP . HOW EVER I HAD HEARD , TO RESET MY COMPUTER DISCONNECT BOTH BATTERY CABLES TOUCH THEM TOGETHER FOR JUST A SECOND TO DISCHARGE THE ELECTRONICS THEN HOOK YOUR BATTERY BACK UP .
If you want an owners manual go to www.cadillac.com then click on select my vehicle scroll and then click on yours and then click go. It will now take you to the model page and at the bottom should be owners manual. Click on that and you should be abale to select your year and download the pdf version of it. You will need something like adobe reader to read it. Don't you just love how GM made the fuse box soooo easy to get to :-)
Thank's again Mr Dave King . One more thing . What would be a good free Cadillac club to join ? I'm new at owning a Cadillac and think i'm gona need alot of advice & help such as my blower motor for my AC is very lowed and sounds like balloons on a bikes spokes , I think I have a broken fin or two on my fan ?
I don't belong to any caddy forums. I'm sure there are several good ones out there. You just need to look at each and see which ones help out fixing things and which ones just have online fights disguised as discussion . A good forum will have several guys who help answers questions. You may just have a dirty fan or some junk in itt that managed to get in through the ducts. Can alsos just be dirt on the squirrl cage or the motor. The motor isn't expensive to replace if needed but getting at it is a pain in the ****.
