My 2001 Oldsmobile Silhouette often times experiences uncontrolled high idle and creeps up to 3000 rpm while driving. This is creating an unsafe driving condition. I can shut off the car and its back to ~900, other times is still at a high idle. I have been unable to determine how to recreate the problem. It does when the daytime temperatures are cold or warm and when the engine temperatures are cold or warm. I have replaced the throttle-positioning sensor and disconnected the cruse by removing its fuse. This car is driving its self sometimes. Scary stuff. Ken
Sounds like the idle air control motor is sticking , not sure what engine you have 3.4 litre ?? also you can ck the throttle plate right on top where the throttle cable bracket assembly part of that bracket holds down a vaccum line that has a rubber gromnet that after time leaks causing idle surge , hope this helps
