The taligate rattles constantly. I removed the plastic on the inside and the rattling continues--seems to be the latch mechanism--Any fix for this and is it a common problem? Thanks, Jim
Look for damaged or worn latch or gaskets replace gaskets or adjust replace latch
Hi Jim, You may need to check the hinges and adjust the locking mechanisms. If the door has a spare attached the weight can damage the hinges. Regards John
Hi Jim, You can loosen the catch plate on the door frame and adjust. Sliding it in will tighten the door but if you move it too far it will fail to close properly. The hinges are also worth a look. Open the door and holding it at a right angle to the vehicle lift it up and down to see if there is any play at the hinges. It is not unusual for the this to happen on five or three door vehicles. Some vehicles carry a spare on the door and that will accelerate the wear. Regards John

it sounds like valves tapping or valve tap, im wondering if Lucas oil stabilizer might help in this situation any other opinions? the fact that it is recommended by so many people including myself, i use it alot
google Lucas Oil / 32 oz. heavy duty oil stabilizer

Is the oil level ok? I assume the car is still under warranty? If it is, don't drive it, as damage to the engine may result. Call the dealer and explain the problem and have it towed to them. If you drive it, they may try to get out of a warranty repair, saying you 'abused' the vehicle by driving it in this condition.

Escapes do not have spares on the tailgates--this probhlem is within the gate itrself and seems to be in the area of the latch, which is above the license plate area. Thanks anyway
Also have a look for any worn or damaged door jamb rubbers
