My check engine light is always on even when nothing is wrong with the car, but when it chokes up the light actually blinks. While idol fluctuates and drops trying to stall the motor shakes of coarse pretty bad. I also changed the air filter as well. Do you think it would be cadillidic converter, coil, o2 sensor, feul injectors, or.....? I don't really have the money to replace all of these right now either so I'm hoping someone can help me
My good friend don't be down with your problem. See first your life which is beautiful and cars can be fixed but our life health wont.I will try to help you with your car's problem. If you suspect the Catalytic Converter it doesn't need to be replaced immediately,You have to confirm first, there is how. First start the car in idle and go at the back of your car and smell the emissions coming out of the exhaust pipe and if the smell is like rotten eggs means you need cat.Even though before you go for it try second test by visiting the MOT Center and request for emission test. Then you finalize. The other Advice I give you is to clean the throttle body ( it is the part that accelerates your engine) either is working mechanically ( cable ) or electronically ( connector ) Use a good quality of carb cleaner and it is much better to remove it and do a very good cleaning. I do not know how expert you are on cars because it is better to remove the throttle by an expert. When finish put in your fuel tank an additive for Fuel Injection Cleaning - What I personally use is the Liqui moly fuel additive and it is very good. Good luck you have my email now and do not hesitate to contact. Calm Down !

Hi potterdon669,
dttech again, I thought I would mention that if there is that much RTV oozing out of the outside of the timing cover, you can bet that there is that much on the inside also. This stuff can break off and small pieces can get sucked into and through your oil pump pickup screen. You should inspect and clean out all the oil passages with solvent and compressed air before reassembly so you don't end up back at square one.

o2 sensors don't usually cause tht kind of problem. srparate the catylist from the front pipe and take it for a spin,

Possible Causes
The following are malfunctions that could cause a rich condition:
^ Fuel pressure too high. Perform fuel pressure test.
^ Leaking fuel injector(s). - Perform pressure leak down test.
^ Vacuum leak around the MAP sensor grommet.
^ Oxygen sensor contamination.
^ Restricted exhaust or air intake.
^ Fuel Vapor Canister saturated with fuel.
IMPORTANT: If the front oxygen reading voltage is above 600 mV and the rear HO2S is above 600 mV all the time, the O2 sensors are probably not
at fault.

curious to know if you got this fixed and what the solution was. Thank you

purely based on what you have written, honestly the first thing i would have checked would be the throttle position sensor (can be checked with a decent scanner with PID capabilities) or a cheap digital voltage meter (less than $15)- I would then look for a vacuum leak, a hose that is cracked or damaged leaking vacuum or the intake manifold having a bad gasket-use a can or throttle body cleaner and with the engine idling, spray around the vacuum hoses and where the intake/throttle body has gaskets-it'll probably stall out if it is idling that bad if you hit an area with a leak.

Heading to the car soon as I'm off work at 1. These answers all point me in a directiion I can test before purchasing anything thank goodness! I will post results tonight. Crossing fingers!
So my brother is now trying to disconnect the part of the cadillac converter that will show us if that is the problem BUT we are not very knowledgable, we are self taught, and don't know exactly what we are looking for to disconnect. Book for the car says to run a test in which we do not have the correct utensils to do. Is there anything you can tell me as far as where I should be looking?
What is the MOT center?
If we unplugged to O2 sensor and the performance of the car did not change, does this mean there is a good chance the O2 sensor is the problem?
