A "tune up" is not rquired on this engine, the computer makes al necessary adjustments, there is nothing to adjust. Possibly spark plug replacement if it's a V-6 they should be replaced at 30,000 miles the V-8 engines use iridium plugs which last about 100,000 miles, the timing belt on both engines should be replaced at 90,000 miles, replace the air filter every 30,000 and change oil and filter at 4,000 miles. I would aslo recommend cleaning the carbon out of the throttle body at around 60,000 miles to prevent low idle and stalling.
Modern spark ;ugs can easily go 50,000 miles. If you think you need new plugs, go ahead and change them out. It certainly wouldn't hurt, and it might give your horsepower and fuel mileage a little boost. I would recommend using Iridium spark plugs from eitherNGK or Autolite. Personally, I use E3 spark plugs. They did wonders for my old '96 4.3 GM V--6. I would also invest in a premium set of spark plug wires, Don't scrimp on the wires, they are a vital link in the ignition system. A cheap set of plug wires can cause multiple misfires which would play havoc with the on board computer.
the most important (in my opinion) is changing the transmission fluid( transmissions for those cost about $4,000.00 to replace) its supposed to be changed every 30,000 miles. ( spark plugs can last up to 100,000 miles before needing replaced.)
its not ill advised. 30.000 miles is about where most spark plugs begin to lose thier potency. If it were me, i'd change them. they aren't expencive, unless you believe in all that platinum 4 bosch ****. get a good name brand set of spark plugs and they'll last another 30,000!
you should check your owners manual for manufacturer recomendations. If you do not have 1 then call or stop by you local dealership and talk to the service manager.
now personally I like the 50000 mile interval and prefer AC plugs.
30,000 miles is about right for changing standard spark plugs. You can install upgraded (and more expensive) Iridium tipped plugs which are claimed to last up to 100,000 miles but on a standard vehicle 30,000 is the correct replacement mileage interval.
Stick to the vehicles recommended service schedule and never mind what your friend says! Afterall these service intervals are already designed for a vehicle running on unleaded!
Carbon build up on plugs has a lot more to do with correct oil and oil filter changes than unleaded fuel.
You shouldnt have to replace them but you do need to remove them clean regap if needed then put antiseize on the treads then put them back in if you do not do this then the plugs will corrode into the cylinder head and when you do replace them they will break off and you will have to tear down top of engine down to remove the head to try to extract what was left inside the head .
