Question about 2008 Chevrolet HHR 2.2

1 Answer

Where are the two o2 sensors located on a 2008 hhr 2.2L

Replaced flex pipe with NAPA part and got check engine light. Code P0420. When I replaced the OEM pipe, I only saw one o2 sensor on the OEM flex pipe. Dealer says there should be two sensors. Where is the second sensor located. I purchased a new ECO-GM flex pipe from Eastern Catalytic #50459 which has two o2 ports on it, but I don't know where the second o2 sensor is located. Thanks...Victor B.

SOURCE: Check Engine Light - O2 Sensor - bank 1 running lean

you should have three oxygen sensors on your car, one for each bank of three cylinders; should be towards the Y pipe on each exhaust manifold. Additionally you should have one on the exhaust pipe before the cadilitic converter.

SOURCE: I keep getting code p0420. I replaced 2 cats, all

P0420 code is usually a sign of s weak fuel pump, and needs to be replaced. Also if you replace the pump and still get that code, check your fuel lines back by the tank and make sure that they are not pinched or smashed. this will also give the same code due to restricted fuel pressure, on the ruturn or supply line........ Good Luck

Code p0420 acura m'dx

1996-newer (OBD-II) vehicles use oxygen sensors and a catalytic converter to reduce emissions. There is one O2 (oxygen) sensor in front of the catalytic converter (called upstream), and one behind it (downstream). When the engine is warmed up and running normally the upstream oxygen sensor reading fluctuates and the downstream one is fairly steady. In the case where both readings are fairly steady, a P0420 check engine light code is set.
Possible Causes: Oxygen (O2) sensor not working correctly
Damaged or leaking exhuast (pipe, manifold, catalytic converter)
Damaged catalytic converter
Diagnostic Help:
To diagnose a P0420 trouble code we begin by checking for exhaust leaks under the vehicle. Then use an oscilliscope to check the waveforms of both upstream and downstream O2 sensors. The front reading should vary, the rear should be steady. Replace as necessary. Check the rear Heated O2 Sensor. Check the catalytic converter, replace if necessary. If necessary, check for wiring and component concerns. See our article "Automotive Circuit Testing 101", if you need more assistance with this. Remember to refer to an model-specific repair manual for proper instruction.

Intermittent loose of power with check engine light

Some of the possible causes for the P0420 check engine light to become lit include the oxygen (O2) sensor not working correctly, a damaged or leaking exhuast (pipe, manifold, catalytic converter) or a damaged catalytic converter. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CONVERTER FAILURE CODE. IF THE O2 SENSORS CHECK OUT GOOD THEN THE CONVERTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. USUALLY PRETTY SPENDY. I RECOMMEND SPENDING THE EXTRA MONEY AND GETTING IT FROM THE DEALER BECAUSE THE NAPA/CARQUES ONES DONT LAST THAT LONG.

Hello: Code 420 normally indicates a catalytic converter is operating below 60% efficiency. You need to take your car to another shop and request a COMPLETE diagnosis not a dart board guess.

Check engine light comes on every 200 or so miles, code P0420. O2 sensor has been replaced. I read that there was a bad batch of catalytic converters in this model. Any other easy tests or fixes?

p0420 is set when the convertor is unable to store oxygen in the minerals used in the convertor. the lack of oxygen to mix with the exhaust gases causes the O2 sensor to set the code. if the O2 sensor has been replaced the only other thing to do is replace the convertor. you can check with the Subaru dealer and let them run your VIN to see if you had one of the defective convertors.

After the flex pipe was replaced the engine light came on and indicated the bank1 sensor2. Could the flex pipe installation have caused this and where is this sensor located?

The sensor is located behind the catylst depending on how many o2 sensors you have. make sure there are no exhaust leaks.

P0420 and check engine light

A p0420 code is set when the computer determines that the catalytic converter isn't doing it's job. In almost all instances that code can't set as a result of a bad o2 sensor so they probably didn't have to be replaced. The catalytic converter will need to be replaced, prefferably by an oem part. This can be pretty expensive and should be considered before purchasing the vehicle.

I have replaced a few bad converters on late model subarus in the past few years.
