peugeot 407 v6 3.0 very short-time rattling(grinding) noise at cold-start, source ... but a friend told me it can be anything else as well (like those solenoids)! ... C6 makes when starting cold - is that a VVT or a valve lifter noise?.
Does the car make this sound when the car has just been turned off and engine is still hot? Lightly push the car back and forth while it's in park. Does it still make that sound?
No it is not, have the belts, and pulleys checked, and see if there arte any codes, spark plugs burned to a wider gap, could cause the engine to ping, make sure you are using specified oil,5 w 30
Check the heat shield to the exhaust manifolds, good chance that the bolts on them have rusted off or is loose causing the Heat Shields to rattle making the tinny rattle noise. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to know if that's making the noise, and if not we can look at other things.
This may be due to old oil. I'd first try changing the oil. The viscosity of old oil may be to thin causing serious run off in the top end. All of the lubrication may be off of the valve assembly causing it to chatter and make these noises until the motor can re-lubricate the valve train.
Also, it may be due to low oil, to heavy of a wieght of oil (such as 15w40 or 20x50). I believe with most of the 04's the recommended oil weight is 5w30.
Try an oil change and see if the noise goes away. If it doesn't I'd do a quick visual inspection under the hood for rattling parts while the engine is running. It could just be a loose housing or something causing the noise. Hope this helps bud!
I had the same problem! I crawled underneath the car and discovered that a heat shield on the exhaust header pipe was corroded and rattling against the exhaust pipe. (Before the muffler) I removed the portion and clamps and solved the problem. Give it a try.
