If you have an overide button look for it on the shifter if you have it on the floor. It would be a small covered Circle Remove it and push the little button it should release it work on the shifter too.
The shifter has two problems that does not let you go out of park, either you push the overide pink button thats on the right interior edge of shifter that releases it... If that doesnt work its another pink pin in front of the shifter, you would have to take shifter console apart to get to it and release it. This is usually the problem.
there should be a shift lock overide button on the shifter look in owners manuel. just push button in and shift
make sure brake lights work most cars wont shift out of park unless brake is on. they use the brake light switch for this though some have a seperate switch on the brake pedal
check ALL fuses under dash and under hood replace any that are bad
should be able to shift when u press brake pedal, if not press pedal and see if brake lights work if brake light switch is bad this can effect the shift control. if this is not issue then the shifter is jamming and the stifting linkage is most likely worn or out of alignment and should be repaired
i have come across this in my shop already. a small piece in the shifter and a spring break loose. it is common. the entire shifter mechenism has to be changed
there is a shift solenoid connected to the brake pedal circuit to release the shifter.it is the click you hear when stepping on the brake.otherwise it stays in park.
the manual overide will let you put it in gear.
