Likely, the little PLASTIC bushings on the shifting linkage broke. Dorman makes a replacement, they're tiny, but easy fix. In a pinch, can use zip ties.

Check the tranny where cable attaches, you should feel clicks when moving shifter if not your not shifting tranny.

If it is floor shift it has a soloind under the cover not to hard to remove, you have to memove the whole thing bolt in front cupholder and inside armrest storage. once it has removed there is a soloind in there that mounts on the shifter. this goes bad alot. Push the button on the silver soloind button this will release it into gear. Hope this helps. ( Usually he black soloind goes bad)
SOURCE: THe transmission will not shift out of park.
there is a brake switch that controls that by the brake ped
SOURCE: shift handle moves freely with out shifting trans
The shifter works off a shift cable which is connected to the transmission. The connection of this cable to the transmission is on the drivers side looking straight up were you can see it. The other end connects to the inner part of the shifting mechanisum where you shift
You can only get a replacement at any General Motos dealerships parts department
Sounds as if your linkage may have become disconnect from the transmission.
