Tried to place into park but couldn't shift past neutral, like it was "stuck", pushed the shift lock release and it worked. Tried to shift out of park after that and couldn't. Pushed the shift lock release again, and I was able to put it into R, N, & D. Went reverse, drive, etc. But couldn't put it into park again, got stuck in neutral. No noises, grinding...nothing.

shifter or linkage is damaged or out of adjustment or tranny park gear is damaged!
SOURCE: Shift lock release worked...do I still need to take car in?
I really wouldnt worry about it. Worse come to worse, if it happens again, you can always use the shift lock release button again.
SOURCE: Have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata
No, that's wrong. The setup on the Sonata doesn't normally require messing with the shift lock release at all. I had the same problem tonight for the first time after owning the car for a year and a half, that's why I looked up this issue.

With the car so new I wonder if its a defect or have you beat your car up. Either your clutch is messed up or something along that line, but your transmission could be rayolly screwed.

This is a 2010 Hyundai Sonata, 4 cylinder
After slamming on breaks really hard,. it fixed the problem. Apparently there's a sensor with the brake pedal & the shifter per the guys at O'Reilly's.
Did you find out what the solution was?
ok, thanks
