How can one disable (or turn off) the VSC traction control while on 2WD mode so that one can do a Smog Check?

I live in California so have to do a Smog Check. I took it to a Smog Check center and they were unable to do the Check cause in order to do so the VSC Traction control has to be disabled but we ONLY could disable the VSC in 4wd mode and we needed to do it in 2wd mode.

All cars that have disable capable traction have special procedures in the owners manual. If you dont have your owners manual, anyone here will need exact make and model and year of vehicle plus the engine and transmission package you have to give you the correct procedure. Some vehicles (Most mercedes products for example) it cannot be disabled through normal means and the test should be conducted by the technician in idle mode only. The tech should be able to determine this from literature he is required to have onsite.

SOURCE: my check engine light is on and traction control

Toyota is known for sensor problems (Especially tire pressure and traction control).
Suggest that you ask your local AutoZone to run a free ODB check on your car and define the specific sensor messages. That may get you in the right direction... or tell you that the chip that collects the data is smoke..... it can happen with excessive heat or voltage spikes.... Good Luck and keep us informed....

SOURCE: ESP/BAS warning light on. went

Hi, these systems are all linked together. Most commonly, one of the wheel speed sensors is not reading or is reading incorrectly. This can also occur on slippery surfaces where one or more wheel slides enough to cause the sensor to drop the signal, but not enough to meet criteria for an abs or esp episode. If the light comes back every time you turn on the ignition, there is a deeper problem.
The system has detected a fault in the electronic stability program - brake assist system. You have an electrical connection at the rear wheels secured to the inside of the brake area and are viewable from under the vehicle. It is a small wire harness running to each wheel. Grab the connector and wiggle it around, and make sure they are tight. Due to the connector being mounted low to the ground, sometimes they become dirty or corroded, not making contact. Do this on both sides and see if the lights turn off.

If the light does not turn off, you have to replace dynamics sensor, which is mounted UNDERNEATH the center console in the car. There is a "lost communication to dynamics sensor" and "low voltage to dynamics sensor supply"..

How to disable trac and VSC in highlander hybrid 2006 model

Disabling the light doesn't fix the problem, you should have this diagnosed by connecting a diagnostic code reader that can communicate with the traction control system, then go from there.

I have asked question twice and no answer yet, even spoke with live chat

You can't turn out the vehicle speed control/traction lights without a scanner/code reader. The light is on because it has detected a problem with this system. The ABS controls the VSC. You need to have the codes scanned and determine what is at fault

Vsc check light is on?? why?? what is the solution????

VSC stands for vehicle stability control, or traction control.
The computer or the driver has switched the system off. If the computer has disabled the system, you would need to have it checked for trouble codes to proceed.

Traction control light and vsc light on,i was told it could be a gas cap not being tightened enough,is this true

When the lights come on a fault is stored in the computer, you will need to read this fault to determine the cause.

Keep in mind that you need to have the codes pulled for the check engine lamp. Anytime a fault is detected and the check engine lamp comes on then both the VSC and Traction control systems are disabled/shut down by the computer as a "fail-safe" function.

Hope helps.

Trac Off, ABS, and VSC indicator lights are on...I was involved in a front end fender bender but nothing major just the fender and bumper damage. but these lights would not go off. 2010 Toyota Sienna LE...

It is very common for all of these lights to come on all at the same time. They are all related to your Antilock Brake and Traction control system. ABS = Antilock Brake System, TRAC OFF = the traction control system is disabled - either because there is a malfunction in the ABS system or you have turned off the traction control button. VSC = Vehicle Skid Control. - (which uses the ABS and the Traction Control to function.)

The most common cause of these lights coming on is one or more defective wheel speed sensors. Although there are many other possible causes as well. Your ABS and Traction Control system must be scanned for fault codes to diagnose the problem. If you had damage to your wheels/axles during your "fender bender" this may have something to do with it. Otherwise it may just be coincidence that part of these systems failed right after your accident.

The abs/vsc/trac and check engine lights stay on. could this be a problem associated with emission control?

Its possible.

Whenever the check engine light comes on the VSC and Traction control will disable because they need the engine at 100% in order to function correctly. Since the ABS light is on I would have to wonder if it isn't an abs problem. Since the VSC and Traction control use the ABS sensors/system to function.

Or there is a problem with both the engine and the ABS.

The only way to know for sure is to have the PCM scanned and the ABS module to see what is goind on.

Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)

Pull out your owner's manual. Usually you have to press and hold the traction button until the light goes out.
