I've got a 95 jimmy that won't go into 4wd high. the light flashes but goes back to 2wd. I can however get it to go into 4wd low. I've change the vacuum switch on the transfer case and checked the actuator to see if it holds vacuum and it does. I also blew all the oil out of the lines. any suggestions on where to go with this now?
I had a similar problem but could not get into 4hi or low. the light would flash just as yours.
Ended up being the transfer case control module, which is below the passenger dash on the left side. There is a small piece of trim you have to pull off. I disconnected it and played with the wires a little bit. then when i started the Jimmy back up and hit the 4W drive button it engaged. So it is either a bad connection in the wiring or that module. I am yet to replace the part since winter is over but they run for around 200 bucks on ebay or 500+ from dealer.
Sounds like it is loosing vacuum check all the lines for a crack even the engine lines will cause it to loose vacc. pressure. if it is not run to the vacuum reserve canister you may not have enough vacc. to hold the actuator in several times I just run new lines and that helped and not very costly.

The dash autoshift buttons light up, and sounds are made, but not the shift. I'll look into the vacuum lines options presented by your respondent. Thanks all.
I replaced all the vacuum lines for the 4x4 system and it worked although now I have to replace the vacuum actuator because there was oil in it and the diaphram tore while i was replacing the vacuum hose that goes to the actuator. Thanks again. I really appreciate your help
thanks for the tip.
