Not good if it makes a grinding noise. Needs a tech or replacement as something most likely has come loose inside the transmission.

SOURCE: My 2001 Dodge Caravan's transmission is stuck in reverse.

Things haven't changed much...look on top of the transmission in the engine compartment and look at the shifting linkage. Look for anything that could be interfering with the shifting. One linkage is the cable to the Shift Lever and Rod that goes down into the transmission. Remove the cable adjustment screw.
Move the shift lever rod towards the front of the Van into the Park Indent Position. Place the Driver's Position (Dash) Shift Lever into Park and then reconnect the Cable to the Shift Lever and tighten down the cable adjustment screw to 70 in-lbs.

The transmission is probably shot. the only other thing could be dirty linkage if you mean "hard" as in hard to move the shift lever. The first thing I would do is get a tranny fluid and filter change.

Check the wire harness, make sure there are no breaks or crushed wires. Also check the wire harness to the TCM, look for any loose connections. Good luck and keep me posted. Be glad to help.

2007 dodge caravan 3.3 transmission periodically won't shift from 2 to 3..turn it off and back on works fine. Usually does this when driven hard but did it cold last night and multiple times today...only...

Code p0700 is the TCM (transmission control module) giving a code because it does not like what it is seeing done in the transmission. If it is the only code that is set, then the problem could be anything related to the transmission. It could be a valve not working, too much clutch slippage, a bad servo etc. Have the code cleared and when it returns check to see if another code is with it. Meanwhile make sure the fluid is red and add an good transmission additive to the system.

P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction OBD-II Trouble Code Technical Description Article by Dale Toalston ASE Certified Technician Transmission Control System TCS Malfunction What does that mean? Many vehicles have a control module for the automatic transmission called a transmission control module (TCM). The engine control module (ECM) communicates with the TCM to monitor the automatic transmission for faults. If the TCM detects a fault in the automatic transmission and sets a transmission related fault code, the ECM is informed of this also and sets a P0700 in the ECM memory. This illuminates the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) to let the driver know there is a problem. If this code is present and the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is illuminated that basically means there is at least one transmission code set in the TCM's memory. P0700 is an informational code only. It doesn't point to a direct fault in the engine, only a general fault in the transmission. More diagnosis is necessary to identify what the transmission fault is. This requires a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission module. Symptoms Symptoms of a P0700 DTC may include: Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination The transmission may exhibit drivability problems like slipping, etc. Causes More often then not, the cause of this code is that there is a transmission problem of some kind. The TCM detected the problem and set a code. P0700 means that a fault code is stored in the TCM. However this doesn't rule out the possibility of a failed PCM or TCM (unlikely). Possible Solutions For a P0700 the only real solution is to acquire a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission control module. Extracting this code from the TCM will be the first step in repairing the fault in the transmission. If the TCM compatible scan tool will not communicate with the Transmission Control Module then that is a good indication that there may be a fault with the TCM itself. Our van suddenly stopped shifting. Let is sit for a few and it will move a little. No advance warning. What could it be???

Turn you key off-on for 3 cycles ending in on. Your odometer should start running codes, if not, it will say "done". If you have codes p0700 or p0701, it will be expensive. Transmission is bad.

My 2001 Chrysler Voyager shifts into neutral while driving

I doubt you going to get a code from the transmission. Im surprised that shop you have it taken to cant tell you what is the problems. If you have high miles as 100k chances are the tranny is worned and need service or replacing. Transmission rearly grind or make a grinding noise, the brakes will make the grinding noise due to the worned pad as metal rubbing on metal, have all breaks check. If the van is 5speed, yes I can see the tranny will make a grinding noise VS automatic transmission. I would take it to another shop and get another opinion or take it to the dealer which they usually charge 70-75 buck to have it diagnose. If tranny need replacing check ebay to junk yard, is lot cheaper and as good than having it rebuilt.

2001 dodge caravan p0700 code

Hello! Well - both of these codes are in reference to shift pack issues. P0700 is related to torque management, designed to reduce the RPM's at highway speed and lock up the torque converter. If it's throwing this code, there is a strong likelihood that the clutch packs are damaged. P0740 is directly related and will most likely result in the need for the clutch packs being replaced. I wish I had better news to report. :(

Hope this helps and good luck!
