I had a Po499 trouble code while the check engine light was on. We changed the vent solenoid and cleared the trouble code. The check engine light is not comming on anymore but it still will not pass inspection. The technition told me that I needed to run it through a OEM drive cycle to get the computer to reset.

DESCRIPTION
A restricted or blocked evaporative emission (EVAP) vent path is detected by the control module monitoring the fuel tank pressure (FTP) during normal operation. The control module commands the EVAP vent valve OFF, or open, and the EVAP canister purge valve ON, or open. The fuel tank pressure should remain low as vacuum is drawn on the EVAP system. If the vent path is blocked or restricted, the vacuum level will increase and DTC P0446 will set.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
An intermittent Condition could be caused by a damaged EVAP vent housing, a temporary blockage at the EVAP vent valve inlet, or a pinched vent hose. A blockage in the vent system will also cause a poor fuel fill problem.

did you try a vent solenoid? this is located behind left rear wheel in fender.

you have to know what the code is that your truck putting out your truck has 4 O2 sensors. the trucks computer is smart and the code will tell you witch one is bad but if you replace just one the next one on the same exhaust pipe will probley go bad so its safe to replace all four. the draw back to replaceing all of them is thay cost about 80 bucks for one ACDelco O2 sensor. It has to be done before it will pass Emissions. not a hard part to change about a 7/8 open end wrench will take it off. have fun.

You are right. You need the vent valve not the purge valve. The vent valve is a dealer item. Also this is a common problem and GM has released a bulletin on this that involves moving the location of the valve and running some new lines. It comes as a kit from GM, and it costs about a 100 bucks.

Egr valve port hole have to remove the intake to clean but that's my problem rite now on a 4.3 vortec the port hole gets cloged with carben not slowing it to work properly.
